Default Big changes coming in Montreal - reports

    https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...for-canadiens/

    AGM Mellanby has resigned.
Confirmed that Bergevin is not coming back next year as has been rumoured for some time.
Bergevin recommended Mellanby as his successor and ownership said nah.
Rumours that Scott Gorton could take over as Pres of Hockey Ops

I dont know if Bergevin GMs the rest of the year or not or if they just make the change now. Regardless we could be seeing the team being taken in quite a different direction if they're cleaning house more or less.

I also wonder about Ducharme...some rumours about the team tuning him out as well.

Bergevin out, Gorton in as Hockey Ops

"The Montreal Canadiens have announced the firing of GM Marc Bergevin, assistant GM Trevor Timmins and Senior VP of Public Affairs/Communications Paul Wilson.

Jeff Gorton named Executive VP, Hockey Operations as the team looks for a new GM: "

    MTL's 1st rounder 09-18

    '09: Louis Leblanc (18)
    '10: Jarred Tinordi (22)
    '11: Nathan Beaulieu (17)
    '12: Alex Galchenyuk (3)
    '13: Michael McCarron (25)
    '14: Nikita Scherbak (26)
    '15: Noah Juulsen (26)
    '16: Mikhail Sergachev (9)
    '17: Ryan Poehling (27)
    '18: Jesperi Kotkaniemi (3)
    https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/sta...W6w0mynsA&s=19

By my count that's one top six forward (Galchenyuk, briefly), one second-pair defenceman (Sergachev), one third-liner (Kotkaniemi, still potential ofc), one bottom-pair guy (Beaulieu), and a lot of sub-replacement or AHLers
Timmins should have been gone years ago.

good for jeff gorton. what happened in new york was a rough go for him, glad hes getting another good chance

i think we all knew MB wasnt going to come back so definitely interesting timing and swiftness to get this done now. if only vancouver would be as decisive....

Gonna predict that their successor will be no more successful, for obvious reasons.

When the organizations priority isn’t finding the best available candidate, it becomes much harder to be successful.

Gorton will call the shots. Leave the French thing alone. It’s a business decision. It’s their business. They’ve been successful with it while others with no such restriction have had no success at all.

Gorton will decide. Gm will be the mouthpiece workaround.

Yes, they’ve been very successful lmao. Envy of the league tbh.

This was the moment that GMMB sealed his fate. This was the moment it all started sliding down hill. If this pick was ANYONE else I think Bergeron still has a job today. This move shortened his rope.

To be fair, it was coming long before this. It was only delayed by a strong playoff run. In a normal year, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs based on points to go on that run.

True. I am not arguing that this one move caused his firing. What I believe is that all the good will that was gained from a cup final appearance was negated by making that bone-headed draft pick. That draft pick led many fans and media to turn on him, or turn on him again. In the court of public opinion, he lost the room. I was surprised GMMB lasted a week in his job after the draft.

was scrolling through my twitter feed and names like Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo to fill the GM chair perked my ears. theyre both probably minimally qualified and are francophone so definitely cant rule it out haha

It doesn't matter who they hire, they're just a media medium for Gorton.
