Default What's a fair return for N.Backstrom? [REP]

Evansville Icemen team in the sig.

My keepers are pretty center heavy, so I'm looking to move Backstrom for a winger.
My thinking is that he's still producing a steady clip, but he's closing in on the "scary" age where most GM's don't want to acquire players anymore.
I'm more than happy to keep him, but figure i'd shop him and see what kind of offers I get back.

But, to the point of my post, I'm looking for some suggestions on wingers to target, either producing at close to or the same rate or up and coming prospects with good potential.

Here's my 9 (in no particular order).
Plus I'll have Barzal moving up to the big club permanently after the season starts.
    1. Backstrom, Nicklas
    2. Kuznetsov, Evgeny
    3. Duchene, Matt
    4. Stone, Mark
    5. Panarin, Artemi
    6. Karlsson, Erik
    7. Klingberg, John
    8. Hellebuyck, Connor

    Ev,

Would be great if you could get your mitts on a younger player who is a hair below Backstrom today but trending up, like DeBrincat, Connor, Nylander, etc.

    Thanks!

Nylander may be available in my league, but is a 1 for 1 there even?

I feel like Backstrom holds more value, but I may be biased.

I guess it's close considering age difference.

Was actually looking at Marner today also, but he may be less attainable.

Depends on how the GM's in your league value youth. I'm basing this on how I would attack it. I mean, those kids I suggested are 10 years younger than Backstrom, so you're gonna have to sacrifice a little production for those kind of years.

Moving forward, I consider Backstrom a 70-78 point player on average.
Those kids are going to float between 58-68 next year, then soon after be in the 65-75 range.

I mean, maybe you can push for Aho, who should be in the 70-75 range next year. Or maybe even a straight swap for a winger who is the same age range with similar production - Patty Kane?
But I don't see you getting a younger winger with the same production as Backstrom, say Laine, etc.

Backstrom holds more value today, but will he in two years? That would be the goal of that trade, or a similar player to Nylander, DeBrincat is another good one. Ehlers as well. I would not go any less established on a Backstrom return - you need to be assured of a good floor to make this deal (unless someone tosses a real blue-chipper at you).

Maybe it's due to his lack of SOG or flash & dash, but Backstrom's a bit in the Malkin territory where you just don't get full value for him based on what he brings annually.

Actually, Aho would be the perfect target. He could close the gap with Backstrom as early as next year on a Canes team that is improving, while adding another stud F at #2. Ehlers great as well, as Luca said.

Good food for thought, Aho might be attainable also.

Would give some REP but looks like I've already REP'd you both recently.

I would jump on Aho - he looks like he's about to burst.

Some have been mentioned but here is my list in no particular order.

    1.) Ehlers
    2.) Aho
    3.) Nylander
4.) Boeser (doubtful but within the realm)
    5.) Huberdeau
6.) Landeskog (Maybe depending on the league)
    7.) Mark Stone

I am still probably shying away from the Debrincats and Connors of the world. Just to unproven at this point but that's just me.

My thinking as well on Connor and Debrincats.

Ehlers and Boeser are both owned by two different GM's who would definitely not move him, non-starters especially if Backstrom is the return.

Aho and Nylander sit with one GM who needs to make some decisions on their roster to free up space.
Plus I have a really good relationship with this GM so I'm sure we can iron something out.

He lost in the 1st round of the playoffs this year due to inconsitent play of his younger guys so Backstrom might be a good sell.

Going to start with an offer of Backstrom & 2020 2nd for Aho & 2018 1st.
He has way too many picks this year and like collecting picks for future years.

Only problem with Aho is that Canes might keep him at center, so trading for him doesn't help with your center issue. But you're definitely getting younger without losing much of anything.

Really? Hmmm, I had no idea he even played center at any point this year.

Is even a viable solution for them at C, I thought he was always considered a winger.

Is this a similar case of the Canadiens putting Drouin a C?

Backstrom has 5 consecutive years at 70 points or better (7 if you include paces lockout and injury season). His career PPG average is better then John Tavares and although he hit the infamous 30 years old, he plays a sustainable brand of hockey. I don't think he should be considered losing nothing. The only thing that hurts his value is the emergence of Kuzy who will primarily play with Ovi going forward but he still gets the PP1 time.

Their plan has been to have him at center all along. They wanted to break him into the league at wing where he's more comfortable but they always saw him becoming a center eventually. They started using him at center late in the season and he was really impressive.

EDIT: That being said, anything is possible with the big changes happening in Carolina.
