Tough loss to the Desert Dogs. One of the more entertaining 0-0 thru 2 period games I've seen in a while. Tough luck on Burrows' boarding call, I can see with the environment around safety that the Refs were erring on the side of severity but that was tough to swallow when it basically decided the outcome of the game. In trying be objective I thought it was a 2 minute infraction, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more of these during the adjustment period.

In fairness though, the Canucks had lots of opportunity to score and didn't, so credit ultimately needs to go to Labarbera, who I think stole this one. On the whole though, this loss was probably good to avoid complacency from settling in before the Detroit game next week.

Edit: Found this after I posted. Similar thoughts....

Credit to Angus in his ramblings for this:

Edler is "back" skating but won't be in play before the playoffs. Between playing it cautious and the cap relief his LTIR status brings he won't be in before then...

Malhotra visited his teammates, but no new news on his status...

Bieksa will be back on Wednesday versus Detroit, barring any setbacks.

    AV's comments regarding Edler:

"I think (Edler) is going to skate with Andrew here for the next 10 days to two weeks, which puts us to the end of March, and then I think he'll be close, depending on how these next steps go, to trying to practise with the group," said Vigneault.

I haven't heard of any official starts yet for Schneider. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start 3 games, though. He's great insurance on Luongo right now, but you have to look at what cost to your team....(player to drop for...)

Terrible news out of Vancouver today. Huge hit to Vancouver's cup aspirations. Much bigger than most will realize...big piece to lose.

    TSN reports:

The Vancouver Canucks received the news they were hoping they weren't going to hear; Manny Malhotra's season is over.

The club announced that it was determined through consultation with team doctors and spe******ts that Malhotra would not return to the lineup for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.

Malhotra was injured against the Colorado Avalanche last week when a pass deflected off the stick of defenceman Erik Johnson into his eye. He needed surgery that night and questions remain about the long-term quality of his vision.

"Manny was really a huge part of our team, not just for what he did on the ice but for what he brought in the dressing room," Vigneault said Saturday. "I think to some extent that this could be a good rallying point for the guys. Obviously, he's not here right now and we have to find a way -- like we've found all year long when we've had guys that have been out -- to continue to win."

Tough loss with Manny for sure. Hopefully the depth Gillis has acquired can fill the hole in the 3rd line.

On a lighter note, Daniel Sedin's wife gave birth last night...Daniel questionable for Wednesday's game vs Wings as he awaits confirmation of paternity. Daniel was quoted, "I don't understand? The baby looks eerily like Hank!!!"

    HAHA

    Dutchy last night on TSN:

"Is it just me, or does Daniel's kid look a heck of a lot like Henrik"

    Golden!

On another note Mikael Samuelsson is listed as DTD and Viktor Oreskovich has once again been recalled.

Bieksa will be making his return to the lineup. Media has suggested that Chris Tanev will be the odd man out, but AV was quick to state that decision was tougher than most think. He will make his decision come game day.

That Malholtra loss is a killer. This is the time of year they especially got him for -- but thankfully, they've got depth. If the blueline can continue to get back to health, they should still be okay.

I'm also hoping Luongo goes out and WINS some games for them -- I'd like to see it from him in the postseason. Fatigue won't be an excuse this year.

FINALLY game day VS Detroit! Been a long wait to see these boys back in action...4 day break is too long for me.

Sameulsson is out DTD with a LBI, but AV stated that if this were a playoff game he would be playing.

    Starting lineups for Vancouver:

    Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
    Higgins-Kesler-Ryamond
    Torres-Lapierre-Hansen
    Tambellini-Bolduc-Oreskovich

    Hamhuis-Bieksa
    Erhoff-Salo
    Rome-Ballard

Tanev does end up being the healthy scratch.

Pretty interesting lineups with all the injuries!

Detroit has 4 players out of the lineup as well, so it should be a pretty even matchup.

Solid game for Vancouver last night. Neither team was at full strength, though Detroit was down some bigger names.

-Higgins looked good on a line with Kesler and Raymond. They created scoring chances and should have had at least one.

-Luongo was stellar stopping 39 of 40

-Howard made some big stops as well, but I don't care about him.

-Bieksa was fantastic in his return. I expected him to be a bit of a liability but he made smart pinches and was involved in the offense. Nice to see he hasn't lost any of his confidence.

-Oreskovich had a great game, posting 4 SOG in the first alone. Gotta make himself noticed. The big body is nice.

-Lapierre is fitting in well on the third line. This line was flying and Hansen plays such a great, smart role.

-Daniel Sedin is up to 40 goals on the season with both Canuck's goals last night. He's three behind Stamkos.

    -PP was fantastic once again.

Solid effort from both teams in a game that lacked some stars. Good to get the win.

    Hey man
What do you expect from Sameulsson next year? Think he retains his second line and top PP duty, or do you see him sliding down the depth chart?

He's getting old, but I still like him as a 30 goal threat if he sticks in the top six and gets PP time.

    Thanks
