    Ok Ryan

You know that you will get flooded, so let's start er up. What's gonna happen with the lines now that Kesler is out to start the season.

Should I grab Hodgson who is sitting on the wire?

EDIT: I grabbed him and dropped Mike Smith. Now, what can be expected of him, assuming Kesler is out till November?

I suppose it makes sense that Hodgson step into Kesler's role.. although it could make just as much sense to push up both Malhotra and Lapierre and have Hodgson center the fourth line. I think he'll definitely get a look there if he can prove he deserves the shot in camp. The one thing that I think it could mean is that odds have gone up that he may get a shot with the big club at the start of the season, instead of starting in the AHL. Worth a shot if you have an empty roster spot, but I wouldn't bank on a guaranteed roster spot especially considering the last time Kesler had this surgery he was back in what I believe was 72 days....That's more around the 8 week mark rather than the 10-12 month suggested lay-off. Kesler could be back for the start of the season, no guarantee that he's still out at that time.

Thanks - I grabbed him, and he will at the very least be good trade bait for some rebuilders. No problem losing Smith.

As a Burrows owner, pretty good news all the way around!!

REALLY looking forward to Anton Rodin coming into main camp this year. I'll be attending the prospects tourny in Penticton running Sept 11-15, mainly to see him. Last year Eddy Lack stole the show and I'm hoping Rodin will do the same this year. This kid has two seasons of playing with men in the SEL so with the glut of injuries to the Canuck's lineup I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see him earn a cup of tea.

    Highlights

Big time sleeper in deeper leagues....probably not ready next year, can't say a year (or two) in the AHL wouldn't be the best move, but I am really excited to see what this kid can do. You should be too, ok?

Vancouver has signed Owen Nolan and Todd Fedoruk to professional tryout contracts. This is similar to what Gillis has done in the past signing veteran players who can come in and create competition and leadership in camp. Both could potentially make the opening night roster with all the injuries, but I don't think it's likely.

I'm hearing suicide so far, but that is just rumor. First thing I thought when I heard was suicide as it's my belief that Rypien was dealing with major depression. That's a completely unsubstantiated guess, but all the info I did hear on it led me to believe he was dealing with something above and beyond just "making mistakes" or and alcohol or drug problem. I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol or drugs were a part of the problem later on, but my feeling is that he was dealing with depression. Poor guy.

Man this is so messed up...I am literally at a loss for words. Absolutely insane and sad. Really don't even know what to say. There were rumblings when Rypien took personal leave that he was suffering from depression so the team wanted him to sort out his personal issues

    Sigh...RIP Rypper.

Everyone breathe in deeply the pain that this family is feeling right now, and breathe back out pure positive energy to help them in their time of need.

It looks like Sammy is ready to roll for the start of the year.

I have one roster spot I need to fill and I was thinking of him, IF he gets to play the point on the top unit. If they roll with 2 D, then his worth really plummets (for me).

What are the chances of this?

I don't think his worth will plummet if he's not on the first unit PP. He was their very rarely in his 30 goal season, prior to last, so I don't see it affecting his numbers. If he gets there and sticks all year you could see and improvement in his numbers, capped at 60, but I think 25-30 goals and 50-55 points with lots of SOG is what can be expected from him. Contract year, he'll be busting his ass as a guy who's coming down to the last few years of his career.

Yea... I think it's Gillis sticking to the idea that the more competition there is, the better. Maybe could have something to do with a potential Schneider, meaning he would be able to pick between Legace, Lack or Climie as the backup to Luongo. I believe it's simply for competition sake, but you never know.
