I was just looking back at the Toffoli trade. I had forgotten Vancouver gave up their only 2020 2nd rd pick in this trade. They didn’t pick until round 3. And Benning didn’t even bother to make Toffoli an offer. How does this guy still have a job? That’s really rough.

the guy still has a job likely because ownership doesnt want to pay 2 gms worth of salary at once. it is pretty clear to ownership that they know the fanbase thinks hes incompetent but we are stuck with him for at least another year.

i realized he probably wasnt going to get fired when he extended tanner pearson. the circumstances are different but its incomprehensible that pearson gets 3x3.25m when toffoli got 4x4.25m. for some reason benning believes pearson wouldve signed for this much as a ufa. i personally believe pearson would be lucky to get a 1x2m deal.

what i keep telling myself is that petey and quinn are still like 21/22 so theyll still be pretty young when this guy gets canned.

Can hate on the OEL contract all you want - to offload those 3 contracts in one move (Beagle, Loui, Roussell) - how do you say no?

Something's changed almost overnight in Vancouver.
If you're a Canucks fan... I think you have to like this direction.

Now... can they move Myers while he still has any value?

They fired Linden for trying to do almost the same things - well prevent those signings - Imagine where they'd be had they listened to him four years ago? And then brought in the Hank & Dank show?

    Beagle - 1 x $1,200,00 in salary ($3,000,000 cap hit)
    Eriksson - 1 x $3,000,000 in salary ($6,000,000 cap hit)
    Roussel - 1 x $1,900,000 in salary ($3,000,000 cap hit)

Total $6,100,000 in money owed ($12,000,000 cap hit for this season)

OEL - $44,750,000 in money owed over the next 6 seasons ($8,250,000 cap hit for the next 6 seasons)

Tell me exactly how this improves the Canucks? How exactly did Benning convince the owner to approve this?

    $12m cap hit in 2021/22
    vs.
$7.2m cap hit in 2021/22 with Pettersson & Hughes to sign.
They signed Garland with the savings - top 6 forward they desperately needed.

OEL is a better player than Ericksson/Roussell/Beagle combined. I'd take a bet OEL bounces back with a fresh start & would argue his decline in play was more situational than physical or talent decline.

    Arz. retained $990k per year.

Well then it's $12 mil vs $43.56 mil in cap hit over the term of the two sides. And Garland's total hit of 24.75 mil.

it was $12 THIS year they needed gone to sign RFA's.
There's no long term concern on the expenditure.
    They needed cap space NOW.

They also added another $8.5m in space by buying out Virtanen & Holtby and losing Baertchi's contract

I mean, you can use total earnings to justify a point - but it's not applicable whatsoever to why Vancouver made this trade.
