Hearing Hobey Baker winner Dryden McKay, a goalie from Minnesota State, will be signing with TOR. He will be eligible to participate in training camp and all of next season. Let’s see where this goes.

Turning 25 in November, listed as 6'0" but looks smaller. I have little expectations.

However the team needs depth in their system. I'm assuming Mrazek is bought out, Campbell extended, and have Woll, Scott, Kallgren all battle for a backup or 3rd string roll with an outside goalie being a backup. McKay could get an outside shot at jumping up to 4th string (AHL Backup).

And on Friday we will see Muzzin, Rielly, Matthews, Campbell and whoever else just not play lol.

Actually, Matthews depends on how much Marner wants 100pts.

Campbell, Matthews, and Marner are not playing tmo. JT got a "maintenance day" today and wasn't at practice. I would think they can't really rest any more players cap wise.

Sandin is rumoured to be able to play tmo. I'll assume a player gets paper transaction sent down (Not sure if Liljegren is eligible for that or not and would still be eligible to play in the playoffs) and Sandin is activated. But who knows.

Bunting I think is skating but Keefe won't say if he's able to play in the 1st game. BTW Game 1 in the playoffs is Monday for the Leafs.

Kase was skating again, in a red non-contact jersey tho.

Leafs Roster and my guess if they start the season with the Leafs:
Matthews, JT, Marner - Not going
Nylander - only going if they win the trade.
    Kerfoot - Trade
    Kampf - Stay
    Bunting - Stay
Simmonds - Stay but healthy scratched often
Abruzzese - AHL with shot at the NHL
    Clifford - AHL
    Engvall - RFA, re-signs
    Kase - RFA, re-signs
Blackwell - Gone, or brought back a few weeks into FA. Like he has a lowball offer on the table from the Leafs
    Mikheyev - Gone
    Rielly - Stays
    Muzzin - Gone sadly
    Brodie - Stays
    Holl - Gone
    Gio - Stays
    Liljegren - RFA, re-signs
Lyubuskin - Toss up. Dependent on if they move Holl or not.
Sandin - RFA, I want him to re-sign, but it could be him or Muzzin being traded. And I have a Young Guns Sandin card and every Leafs item I acquire, the player leaves 1yr later. Andersen signed helmet, Hyman signed Jersey, Kadri sign picture, JVR jersey, Kessel Jersey. I'm cursed.

    Mrazek - Bought out
    Campbell - Gone.

I guess Toronto explores a Muzzin+prospect/pick for Gibson. If that doesn't go down, Toronto can explore re-acquiring their 2nd round picks from Seattle and offer-sheet Oettinger. (low chance this happens) Maybe Toronto tries a Mrazek+ for Dreidger. He's 28, 2yrs left of a 3.5AAV deal with Grubauer as their starter. Then maybe Mrazek is bought out by Seattle, or they run with him as the backup.

    Lots of possibilities out there.

I wish they could get Gibson. On this Leaf team he could really do well. The others I'm not very high on but knowing the Leafs they will think rolling with Mrazek is good enough. Let's hope not.

In order to get Gibson, they will need to send money out and the Ducks probably arent going to give up Gibson for a salary dump. I cant see Anaheim trading Gibson without getting quality back. Leafs fans have visions of sugarplumbs dancing in their heads if they think Anaheim is interested in a contract dump like Mrazek + as a player going the other way. It's going take a bigger prize than that.

I always assumed Muzzin would be indirectly involved in a Gibson trade.

    Something like:
    Trade 1:
    Nylander+Lilj+Pick
    for
    Chychrun+Crouse+pick

    Muzzin
    for Pick(s)/prospect(s)

    Pick(s)/Prospect(s)+
    for Gibson

    Rielly-D (Chychrun can play RD)
    Chychrun/Sandin-Brodie
    Sandin/D-D

I dunno if it would happen, it's a lot of movement for a team that said "we aren't doing anything drastic". But I'm done putting too much thought into offseason trades because trade values to us mean nothing to GMs. And we think all these moves will happen for teams but rarely do. Not worth my time to invest a lot of time into the idea of getting guys. Outside of burning time and having fun.

I suggested (contract of) Mrazek, a 1st or 2nd and Sandin for Gibson in a different thread.

Im not certain Gibson is the guy though. with all those years and dollars left, big risk. at least mrazek is buyout-able

Ya I think the least disruptive route with the team is buying out Mrazek. Or maybe they have lost hope for a guy like Robertson and figure that type of Prospect for them is worth tying to Mrazek to get him gone. Really, is a pick or prospect worth saving 1m 3 of the 4yr buyout (with 1yr being less than a mill).

Most GMs dont like using buyouts on players THEY just signed because it makes it look like they were in the wrong in signing him in the first place. I think they bury Mrazek in the minors before they buy him out, but who knows how this will go down. I dont know if he's really tradeable, seeing as he still has two years left, but it depends on how badly they want him gone. It will be an interesting off-season again in Toronto, especially if they watch Jack Campbell walk out the door.
