Huberdeau has the most assists, in a season, by a Left Winger ever.

Toronto wishes their first line winger could do that.... nevermind their second line winger.

You guys are cracking me up... Hubie ain't even in the mix for the Hart. If your best argument is him having the most assists for a LW then that's pretty weak. Hell, Barkov is more valuable to his team than Hubie.

AM has 47 goals in his last 47 games. Last person to do that was Super Mario in the 90s... Let that sink in

Nobody cares about LW assists...that's almost as important as Yandles ironman record

That's because it doesn't help you win free coffees each week. It wins Florida games though.

It's Matthews by a landslide. The only other even remotely legit contender is McJesus.
McDavid shouldn't be nowhere near this conversation. 2nd assists and empty nets is where you find McDavid, that's about it. He for sure isn't the best player on the Oilers.

Hart is mvp of the league, not most points or most goals.

matthews isn't the biggest reason why leafs are where they are
mcdavid for sure has no business being in hart contentiont his year

huberdeau is the reason why florida is where they are
shesterkin is the reason where NYR is where they are
gaudreau even deserves it over matthews in my opinion.

People these days automatiaclly give it to whoever has most points more often than not. it's just wrong, and not what the trophy represents.

Shesterkin, Gaudreau, McDavid, Matthews are all legit hart candidates. Huberdeau is obviously not lmao.

It is hilarious that people arguing Huberdeau are also using the “things other than points matter” argument. The only argument for Huberdeau is points. He doesn’t touch any other aspect of the game.

    And Matthews does?
This all should be a separate thread though.

Yes. Auston Matthews is one of the best defensive players in the NHL today. Huberdeau is one of the worst.

I think assists are very important, look at what Marner does for AM. But we can't discount what Matthews is doing. He's on a torrid goal scoring pace and is a very important part of the Leafs success. I don't agree that he is one of the best defenders in the game, he has improved a bit. I see him drifting on a lot of plays. But I would say he's the front runner in the MVP race. Hard for a goalie to win it and also hard for Hubs to get recognition as compared to what AM is doing. Like somebody mentioned, the only guy(s) that should give him a run for it are the Oilers duo of McJesus and Leon.

Kudos to Ricky Vaive for holding onto the record for this long!!

    Leafs D pairing last night:
    Rielly - Lybushkin
    Brodie - Holl
    Gio - Lili

Muzzin is apparently going to play tonight, do you see these pairings?

    Rielly - Lyb
    Gio - Brodie
    Muzzin - Holl?

Or do we see Liljegren come in for Holl? I prefer this, Holl/Muzzin did work last yr but not this yr.

Matthews may not be in the conversation for the Selke just yet, but he's absolutely one of the top two-way players in the league

I dunno, maybe I haven't watched the right games this year but I just don't see it. Probably have never thought this when watching him. But will watch him more closely to see if he really is a future Selke winner (which I don't see at all). I remember him last year struggling on D and the past couple of playoff seasons were disasters in both ends of the rink. Plus I don't think he gets paid the big bucks to worry too much about being a Bergeron type of guy. But like I said, something to watch for sure...
