Yeah probably the exception rather than the rule for a great player to be any good at coaching or management.

Gretzky was notoriously abysmal at it.

The greats like Lemaire, Sakic and Stevie Y are few and far between.

Current day I'd say others who were great players and seem solid in coaching or management:

    - Brindamour
    - Tocchet, maybe
    - Muller
    - Rob Blake, Kings GM
    - John Davidson

The ones who are really good at it are the ones who took the time to learn from some very experienced people before just jumping into it cold turkey.

Never watched that All or Nothing thing but it's safe to say I know the ending. Nothing. We might get the chance to see season 2 if they make the playoffs.

Not going to buy what they are selling just yet. Beat DeBrincat, barely beat Detroit and playing a depleted Vegas squad. True test coming up next 2 games.

Jack Campbell not denying Kypers report about extension talks and how he wants nothing more than stay in Toronto.

I have no idea what the Leafs would need to pay him.

I don't think it would be a lot. Maybe something like $5-5.5M over 5 years? He's looked great so far this season.

It's hard to say. He'll be 30 in January. So anything more than 5yrs is too much. He's only had 30 games of being a starter. So I can see an argument for 5-5.5m, I can see an argument for 4m. I really have no idea, I would think it would depend on if he gets it done now it'll be lower than if he got it done in February. Just a guess tho.

I dont think they can afford to pay him that much with their cap space and team needs. Not unless they make more moves to clear some cap.

With Rielly, they essentially get the space for him with the Kessel 1.2m and the 1m in "potential" cap space increase.

With Campbell....I would expect the money comes from Holl/Kerfoot/Engvall/Mikheyev. With money also going to Sandin/Lili in bridge extensions, and Kase I dunno.

It's yet again another season of backflips through the cap though. I really have no idea how it'll work with their goalie situation. But at LEAST they have Mrazek. At a min, they at least have a goalie under contract.

Yeah, this is my worry. IF the Leafs low ball or walk away from Campbell I don't have much faith in him taking over the #1 spot. Sure some goalies tend to get better with age but they have to be out there and actually play. Not a good start for him so far. I think Leafs re-sign Jack and hopefully it will be at a good number. But it's early, it is the Leafs and being a Leaf fan is always fun. (good or bad)

i wouldn't be surprised if Campbell gives the Leafs a Rielly-esque discount to stay.
Would not be surprised if he inks 4yrs at 4.5M

And then Tor moves Mrazek out for a cheaper option - I can see that happening mid-season.
heck, If I were Dubas I would be looking really long and really hard at Buffalo and Craig Anderson for Mrazek.

2.8m cap space and a really great locker room back up G - who can still play at 40.
one i trust more than Mrazek as well.

You have about 18 goalies in Dallas that are def halfway out the door there.

If you can't come to terms with Campbell, Khudobin and Bishop are under a contract still, and Holtby would be a UFA.

I think there's a bunch of goalies on the open market that have the same question marks as Campbell and Mrazek out there. Unless you got a top guy, that middle tier is all just a jumble of differing talent.

I have no questions about Campbell.
I think he's going to be a Vezina finalist.
guy is a stud. This was a brilliant acquisition by Dubas

They will be smart to lock him up.
they just can't pay him 4-5M and Mrazek 3.5. Mrazek will have to go.
Works for this year, just not beyond.
Dallas goalies all want more than Leafs will be able to pay a back up.
Bishop and Holtby have as many question marks as Mrazek IMO.
Khudobin is just too expensive as a back up.
