    Well this isn't that true.

Marner, Matthews, Nylander, and Kerfoot are all not-locked with a NTC/NMC/MNTC.

Rielly and Holl have a MNTC.

Unless you were specifically talking about Tavares having a NMC but that's for 4 more yrs.

    EDIT:
I thought you said NMC not MMT lol. No idea how I mixed it up, but I think the above does still kinda hold. I don't know how you move Marner and come out on top though, same with Matthews. I don't see how you could do those trades and win.

What will be interesting is whether they protect Muzzin or Dermott or Holl on D. -- Rielly & Brodie are locks.
and they'll protect Campbell - exposing Hutchinson.

Entirely possible they don't protect Muzzin and choose Holl over both Dermott or Muzzin.
    Holl is massively underrated IMO.

Freddy walks and they extend Campbell
Muzzin's 5.6m cap hit would create a lot of flexibility

Be nice to see Dubas unearth a depth D off another team and roll into a top 4Dman. We just saw it up close - Chiarot & Petry

Oof you only have one more season of Campbell at 1.65m. He's going to expect to be paid as a starter.

You see Brodie as much more of a lock than Muzzin?

Well Dubas and company look like they will preach patience with what they have. Keep saying lessons learned and keep moving forward with challenges ahead. Looks like he and Keefe will get another shot. Rolling this circus around for another year.

TML protected list is pretty interesting. There is at least an argument that they should do 4/4 instead of 7/3.

Is it ok for Leaf Fans to pull a Trump and just blatantly say "Leafs simply didn't lose Game 7" ... or maybe "Habs STOLE the winning result away from the Leafs who are the rightful winner"?

I mean, calling the Leafs the North Divisions Champs is essentially doing that no? sigh.

Maybe just a tantrum or two!?

FAK! I hate when the most exciting thing for me, as a Leaf Fan, has nothing to do with on ice stuff but everything to do with off ice Draft Lottery today, ironically... having nothing to do with the Leafs?

I seem to be lost right now.

he will... one hopes the cap goes up for 2022/23 season

    and I do.

19/20 Dubas tried to trade kadri to Cgy for Brodie - Kadri nixed it.
20/21 free agency - Dubas #1 target was Brodie.

No way he chases Brodie for two years to not protect him.

Realistically, Leafs protect, Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin
That's also almost $16m in Dmen protected.
for a cap strapped team - leaving one of those three - Muzzin - unprotected in the hopes of cap flexibility is one strategy.

Really, the just need to steal Mtl's NHL defence scout and make a brilliant value trade

Holl is pretty good for his price tag.

Honestly I'm debating in my head about leaving Tavares open lol. Plus side of 30 for an 11m contract next 5 years oof.

Tavares has a NMC. I cannot see him agreeing to that and it would be a PR disaster if them asking even got out.

IMO, Tavares-Matthews-Marner-Nylander-Reilly-Brodie-Muzzin-Holl/Dermott is the protection list that makes the most sense

Oh your right I just checked... I was thinking it was Matthews that had it.

Hmm so I'd probably leave Muzzin unprotected or go your route (protecting Holl) that I think would result in losing Hyman or Engvall???

Probably leave Muzzin unprotected. I'm predicting Seattle to have a strong D-core which would make them taking Muzzin a little harder (flexibility wise).

Hyman is a UFA. If the Leafs go 4-4, they’re likely to lose Engvall or Holl/Dermott. If they go 7/3, they’re likely to lose Holl/Dermott. Every leafs F outside of the big 4 and Engvall are UFA this summer or ineligible. Going 4/4 makes way more sense for TML unless they make trades to acquire more F pre-expansion.

I don't think that will stop Seattle from taking him. They are going to have much more cap room to offer Hyman a juicy contract to get him signed.

I wouldn't want to lose Muzzin or Hyman or Holl... GL Leafs.

Leafs eligible forwards to be drafted by Seattle that aren't UFA's:
Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kerfoot, Engvall (RFA in 2022-23)

Leafs eligible defense to be drafted by Seattle that aren't UFA's:
Muzzin, Brodie, Rielly, Holl, Dermott (RFA)

Leafs eligible goalies to be drafted by Seattle that aren't UFA's:
    Campbell, Hutchinson

What's interesting with the Leafs expansion, if they choose 7f/3d, they need to acquire forwards, or sign some of their UFAs.

    I say they go 4/4.
    Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander
    Rielly, Holl, Muzzin, Brodie
    Campbell

Exposed is Dermott, Kerfoot, Engvall. Kerfoot or Dermott is taken. Depends on the other D available, and I would assume Dermott isn't one of the best D available.

I think the Leafs see Sandin as, perhaps, a more valuable offensive presence on the blueline (of which Rielly didn't really impress esp on PP1). I think HE...Sandin is the next top 4 D that could, and likely will replace Rielly in the next year or two in the top pairing. I think Brodie has proven the value in his style of play. Muzzin, short of exiting every playoff he's tried to participate with the leafs, also plays a significant role.

as for Seattle, Dermott is a risky pick from a team like the leafs. An RFA who may choose not to sign with the team. Having said that, he doesn't have much of a resume to date, so his leverage is not so high IMO. Still think Seattle would be better off taking a stab at Holl or Kerfoot who could potentially play in the top 6 of that team.

Anyway... I wouldn't be surprised if Rielly isn't the asset that finds himself "outside the main core" and on the block to a) free up more cap space and b) draw in another top 6 winger...OR... Younger/cheaper established D.

All just galaxy braining for me here.
