Their shift started at 1:24 left in OT.

Took the draw, had some offensive time, Ottawa then broke it out to the Leafs zone, Leafs then brought it back to Ottawas zone (so 2 full ice lengths so far) with 37s left. And at 30s left is when Chabot picks the puck up to go on the offensive attack.

I know Keefe is fine leaving Matthews and Marner and Rielly out in OT for over a minute. But man...any time they are on past 1min they are GASSEDDDD and it's an obvious odd man rush going the other way. However, they get wins by Matthews pulling some energy out of no where for one last attempt it seems.

I'm sure Matthews and Marner are out on the ice for over half that OT.

It would be a very interesting stat and I'm sure it's out there...OT%. Just like how much of a team's PP time a player sees - how much OT time do they see.

I will always be ok with this type of gamble if Matthews is coming out ahead more often than not.

OT is def a "calculated gamble" game. He did play 22min, and was on the last minute of the game. Had what, 1-2min break before OT and he just had a 2on1 off the draw.

I can def see him seeing the 2on1 the second he releases from McDavid and thinks "fudge, well that's a 2on1 I can't really influence, I hope we get a save and turn it the other way". Same with Marner, I guess he thought Matthews was moving back more and kind of half sees it and tries a half good stride before realizing it was pointless

Honestly all I see this yr is Matthews in OT and effort/long shifts. And Nylander's effort on changes, it was pointed out once and that's all I see now. If that's my complaints though...that's an alright situation to be in.I'm not complaining about them, just stuff I see and it's def a "do I get their highlights with micromanaging some of the things that happen"

Matthews should have got a penalty in OT for the chinsy interference with McDavid (not the first time that happened last night on McDavid) but as usual, got away with it.
The weren't calling shit again last night(yes I know, both sides can say that). Thankfully the Oilers finally pulled one off in OT.

It's almost like since the Peel thing has happened, the refs are like, "Oh you wanna have us call penalties? Know what, I'm going to stop making calls even harder" on the national stage.

I was watching it being like, "that's a penalty. That's a penalty, oh that's a penalty" for like 120 straight minutes.

Remember the yr out of the lockout and they were calling interference on the dump ins lol. I think people were saying Elliotte Freidman said like "if you want them to call everything, get ready for even icings being called exact" and I'm sitting here thinking, "yeah...I think that's what the crowd yelling wants, calls that are made with no outside influence".

Taking a step back at being very critical on the game, if Edmonton and Toronto meet in the playoffs that would be a great series.

I think what Muzzin/Holl were doing was more "illegal" but it's def more stomached and normalized than what Matthews was doing. But ya, Matthews would be praised in Toronto for his defensive play but in reality he was just cheating. And that's like almost every "defensively responsible forward" or "man Player X SHUTDOWN Player Y" where it's like well noooo he got away with about 5 obvious calls that the refs decided weren't penalties today.

Someone pointed out that like 90% of games over the last 2 weeks have had the penalties +/-1 of each other (3-2 for example) and it's like...no way that happens. It's just so obvious.

I'm just ranting now haha.

Sounds like Rodion is coming over from the MHL once the season is officially complete. He'd be with the Marlies obviously, but that means he can be on a line with Robertson-SDA-Amirov :-O. I don't think that happens lol, lots of pressure on rookies, but just another weapon coming to the Marlies; that's never a bad thing

Big congrats to JC.

he's legit filling the James Reimer hole in a lot of Toronto's hearts. There's a lot of good players that have been on the team, lots of nice genuine people that have been on the team, but the last beloved player based on personality has been Reimer. Campbell is filling that role.

Fans tweeted Reimer's wife threatening things when he wasn't winning games....God I hope people are better when Campbell comes back down to earth.
