Zone entry and puck retrieval was blah.

I do kinda wanna wait and see more from Thornton. He made a bunch of nice small passes when he was standing still, but when he's on the PP, zone entry is essentially 4v4. And with Simmonds, 3.5v4.

Leafs are apart of an Amazon Doc series "All or Nothing" and it's currently being filmed right now. Sounds like it's following the Leafs all yr.

Should be a cool watch when it comes out.

As great as Nylander was last night... can't overlook that massive gaffe on the mtl rush where he sat between the hash marks staring at the puck along the boards and totally ignored his player he had just seconds before watched skate into the zone behind him.

Directly resulting in a goal. Massive, massive defensive zone fail. Should have been benched for that shit.

Game 1, with 1 scrimmage as their tune up. I think you give a lot of leash on miscues in the first 2-5 games.

Anyone have any ideas as to why they aren't using their last taxi-squad spot? Engvall is still waiver-exempt and the AHL isn't starting up for a few weeks.

Toronto is carrying Dell on the Roster as a 3rd tender at the moment. That accounts for the "6th" spot on the Taxi Squad the way I understand it. But this certainly isn't my forte!

They aren't using their last taxi squad because they can cycle waiver exempt players on and off the taxi squad on days they don't play and bank cap space.

Was it me or did Brodie look really out of place on the powerplay and 3vs3 OT? I know his stick broke which could account for some of those whiff shots, but even receiving passes and making them... it's like he was trying to hard to make blind passes and ended up truly being blind and a turn over. I hope he comes around and/or is not used for the PP. Beyond a generally ugly game, just happy to have acheived the WIN.

PP and 3on3 is a high chemistry test. Especially when you have forwards who cheat to the level the Leafs forwards cheat.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and even JT really look like a hard group of forwards to gel with through practice/scrimmage just based on creativity and knowing what puck battle they can win. Nylander on the boards is underrated, but he doesn't fight for the puck really, he's sneaky. Marner is the same with stick lifts, then Matthews is a unicorn when it's battles (as in polar lol). I can see how a Dman has trouble meshing right away with the group.

We saw a PP specialist in Barrie crash and burn with the group.

First Battle of Ontario tonight.

Should be a good game with interesting youth on the Ottawa side. Should be a fun first 10minutes of extreme offensive hype in my mind. Think guys just ready to go on Ottawa's side cheating hard so back and forth should happen.
