    player submitted like 2.5mill/1yr.

So, like 1.5mill will end up being around where he'll land. And they're at 1.4mill cap space.

So with Mikheyev signed Toronto has something like

    Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
    Thornton-Tavares-Marner
    Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Barabanov
    Vesey-Spezza-Simmonds

    Reilly-Brodie
    Muzzin-Lehtonen
    Dermott-Holl
    Bogosian

    Andersen
    Campbell

A 21 man roster with a hair under $1.5M to re-sign Dermott for the $81.5 cap ceiling and Robertson goes back to junior. Barabanov & Lehtonen are both waiver-exempt as well, and I may be misunderstanding something here so please, correct me if I'm mistaken, Dermott can be signed for above $1.5M and one of Lehtonen or Barabanov can be sent to the Marlies in a paper-transaction so the Leafs can sumbit their "Opening Day Playing Roster" that must be under $81.5M with at least 20 players. Then someone can be called up for the actual opening game and inevitable injuries will make the cap room needed to have a 21 man roster for the season.

Also, I have no idea where Keefe will stick Thornton or Vesey in the lineup, or if Vesey will stick at all frankly. So please, don't focus on the Thornton on the 2nd line placement. Just putting names together.

    My theory:
Leafs will run "20 man roster" and the league will run some form of taxi squad. Engvall will be buried. However, they won't have to do that with some creativity.

    Hyman - Matthews - Marner (24.777)
    Mikheyev - Tavares - Nylander (19.607366)
    Robertson - Kerfoot - Simmonds (5.821)
    Vesey - Thornton - Spezza (2.3)

    Muzzin - Brodie (10.625)
    Rielly - Holl (7)
    Lehtonen - Bogosian (1.925)

    Andersen - Campbell (6.65)

    Kessel-Engvall (buried penalty) - 1.375mill
    Total - $80,080,366
    Space - $1,419,634 for Dermott

Joey Anderson doesn't get signed, or gets buried for no penalty. Boyd gets buried with no penalty, Sandin gets sent down, or Lehtonen.

It's going to be interesting to see how they set this up. My main concern with all this turnover is how everyone will mesh and/or how long it will take for guys to learn to play together, if they are even able to in a shortened season. The bottom 6 could turn out to be a bit of a disaster because of it.

On the other hand, the extra depth could help promote competition leading to stronger performances from the bottom 6, and the depth will also help weather the inevitable injuries throughout the season, so there's potential positives there too. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

The number in my head that seems to make sense for Dermott is $1.2, that's around where I'm expecting him to come in.

well bottom 6 already was a disaster lol....i think this group will be better, but i do agree it may take some time to mesh.

And we all know the lineup will be adjusted many times throughout the yr.

I can even see a loaded lineup being used for a period

    JT-Matthews-Marner
    Hyman-Thornton-Nylander
    Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Robertson
    Vesey-Spezza-Simmonds

To think they'll not rotate that bottom 6 very often is too old school for me. Thornton could even be a winger for a shift after a PK I'd think (Thornton-JT-Nylander/Thornton-Matthews-Marner), but only for a shift post PK I'd think.

One would have to think Dermott for a 2nd round pick is pretty much inevitable here.
Unless they have a bigger move planned - Willy ? Dubas pretty much promised him that wouldn't happened, but that was a long time ago. Circumstances change.

With roster manipulation, they can sign him to roughly 1.4mill/yr without burying Holl.

I think they get Dermott signed.

Agreed, they have so much flexibility in terms of moving guys up and down, there's no need move anyone else out. Unless it's a hockey deal to improve, they are pretty set.

I assume the room you speak of means carrying less than 23, right ?

Yes, a few posts above 2014og and I both put up 20 and 21 man rosters that the Leafs can fit under the cap if Dermott signs around $1.5M. Unfortunately a 23 man roster is likely not on the table unless injuries pile up.

carrying more than 20 (oficially) when your farm team is in the same city is pretty pointless

There will be a lot of paper moves for the leafs this season.....as it should be

    Right, gotcha.
I'm honestly surprised other teams in the league don't make more of a stink about this. It's an unfair advantage the Leafs have, despite being onside, and a pretty significant one.
I would do the same thing if I was KD, but I would definitely be complaining if I was an opponent.
