I think the answer is no on a one-year deal, but I'm not quite sure.
I think it's different where his existing contract is being terminated. Nylander entered the season a RFA without a contract. With Buffalo terminating his 6m deal I think it's just a reg. cap hit.
I suspect he'll sign cheap to get on a contending team
I haven't looked into the CA to be sure, but the circumstances of him signing now are entirely different than WN

    RFA vs UFA.

But it is a pro-rated cap hit...according to the bottom of the page on cap friendly:

How is the cap hit calculated for one year contracts signed after the start of the season?

If a player is signed to a one year contract after the start of the NHL season, that contract is subject to a unique cap hit calculation.

A notable aspect of the calculation is that the cap hit value is increased.

The cap hit is calculated as follows:
Cap hit = Signing bonus × total season days / season days remaining + base salary

    Example:
Brogan Rafferty of the Vancouver Canucks signed a one year ELC on April 2, 2019. The contract has a base salary of $832,500, a signing bonus of $92,500, and there were 4 days remaining in the 186 day season:
    Cap hit = $92,500 × 186 / 4 + $832,500
    Cap hit: $5,133,750

Thanks for the link. I read through it but it still doesn’t offer a good formula for someone who doesn’t receive a signing bonus which Bogo likely wouldn’t get.

Do that equation with $0 as the signing bonus and the cap hit for the year would be $0 so something is missing.

I would guess the answer for a UFA is as simple as a yearly salary multiplied by the percentage of the season remaining.
Example as of today- $1mill x (days remaining 43 /days of season 186)= $231,182 cap hit.

Do it without the signing bonus and it's just a flat cap hit.

I'll admit, I haven't seen this name anywhere in rumours. But he would fit the Dubas profile of Dman pretty well. Especially RD - years on contract and cost controlled at 4.167m

Damon Severson NJ. The type of deal that moving Kapanen or Johnsson would take to get done and also make sense and would fit their style of play.

Analytics would say Leafs are not trading for Dumba - advanced stats repeatedly say he's not good at defending high danger chances.

Kovalchuk was pro-rated for the Habs based on how much of the season is left and it was the same situation.

If Bogosian is bitter at Buffalo... odds are he signs with the team that holds the most remaining H2H games vs. ... heh.

Everyone still want to “go for it” this season?

I wish the Leafs sold all their impending UFAs every trade deadline.

Prices are stupid this time of year.....They can trade Barrie and still 'go for it'
