Correct. And they shouldn't be doing either of those things.

In today's nhl you just have to get in and run hot with minimal injuries. Id bet against them against Washington, Boston, or Tampa but in a best of 7 anything can happen with the current parity setup.

Edit: I wouldn't sell if I was the leafs. I also wouldn't buy though. They are what they are, it will either happen if they get in or it won't. I don't think any one or two players is going to change that and it's probably not worth giving up the future.

    Forwards:
    C. McDavid, N. Kucherov, R. O'Reilly, J. Schwartz, J. Toews, J. Huberdeau, T. Toffoli, M. Granlund

    Defense:
    B. Burns, J. Klingberg, R. Josi, J. Slavin

    Goalie:
    J. Binnington

I was only rebutting a point made by someone else who seemed worried about it. He brought up those teams that they allegedly won't be able to beat.

And the phrase "barely a playoff team" is misleading to say the least.
They are in a stronger conference and on pace for 97-98 points - easily a qualifier most seasons. They have more points than Edm and Cgy at the moment, two teams who also should not be selling at the deadline.
You cant compare East vs West teams.

And the numbers say they are barely a playoff team, not me.

Unless the rules changed at some point the Leafs won't be playing the Oilers or Flames in the playoffs

Regular season record means shit in the playoffs. Look at the history of Presidents Trophy winners who have actually won the cup. Ask the Lighting they'll tell you all about it.

Regular season record does mean something in the playoffs: if your record isn't good enough, you don't get in.

The Maple Leafs problem is that right now, it's not good enough.

Kyle Clifford has fought the Anaheim Ducks more than any other team (11 times in his career). Leafs play them at home tonight, Clifford's love for the Leafs (He seems genuinely pumped to be a Leaf), do we see him fight someone tonight?

I'm sure there's a practice today around 11am, so we'll see the lines then, but I expect him to be on the 4th line with Spezza/Timashov/Gauthier.

Officially Lili called up, Ceci to be re-evaluated in a month.

Nick Robertson has 41 goals in 36games for the Petes btw. Just a wee update of a Leafs prospect.
    12 Team, H2H, Keep 6 (in Bold)

W, Saves, S%, GAA, Game Started
    2C, 2LW, 2RW, 4D, 1Util, 2G, 5BN, 2IR, 1IR+, 1NA

    C: Horvat, Trocheck
LW: J. Robertson, Byfield (C), Guenther
RW: Pavelski (C), Giroux (C), Svechnikov (LW)
D: Fox, Makar, Bouchard, Morrissey, Gudas
    Util: Meier (LW, RW)
    G: Oettinger, Georgiev, Samsonov, Woll

Ceci is now a permanent resident of Robidas Island. It'll be as if the Leafs traded him, in effect, in being able to use his 4.5 mil cap hit to acquire help at the deadline. If they tried doing the same with Rielly they're up to 9.5 million. If they don't do that with Rielly, selling off Kappy or AJ will open close to 8 mil in space for an asset to come their way.
    10 Team H2H Points-Only
    G=3, A=2, PPP=1, SHG=2
    Goalie W=5 GA= -1 SO=3

    22 Man Roster: 9F, 5D, 1U, 2G w/Max of 4 G's (Can drop G for F or D) 5 Bench Spots (Up to 7 if you don't carry a goalie)
F: McDavid, Barkov, Marner, Pettersson, Stone, Olofsson, Pearson, Meier, DeBrincat, Ehlers, Fiala, Rust, Kubalik, Cirelli, Yamamoto, Tarasenko, (Ghost of Bjorkstrand...too sad to fill his spot right now)
D: Hedman, Barrie, Klingberg, Pionk, Niskanen
    G: Zero-Goalie Strategy

It's a bit bold to think we know what Pridham is doing with the cap at this point lol.

Oh yeah. Do we ever lol.

He's already in line at the airport getting his ticket to go there.

Andersen taking shots in the backup net, Campbell taking shots in the starter net (with a Leaf designed Mask already), Hutch watching at practice right now.

Andersen not traveling to Montreal either. Campbell has to be going back-to-back here.

If I'm a Leaf player, I'm fearing if I make between 4-5.5mill/yr right now:
    - Horton - 5.3
    - Clarkson - 5.25
    - Rielly - 5
    - Ceci - 4.5
    - Andersen - 5

    All on IR or LTIR

And little bonus when Muzzin was hurt before (4mill). Obviously I'm just joking around. Andersen was placed on IR because he's not ready for Tuesday's game, and is eligible to come off IR On Wednesday. So it's pretty much just a paper move as Andersen is still practicing.

Lou Lamoriello's ghost isn't joking when it summons the LTIR hitman with his baseball bat to do some "cap manipulation"
