Leafs recall Kaskisuo. Not a good sign in regards to Andersen's injury last night. At this point I wouldn't be mad if they became sellers. Get what you can for Barrie, Spezza etc. and hope you can finish in the bottom 10 so we don;t have to give Carolina the draft pick from the Marleau trade. This will buy them a bunch of time to address their D and back-up needs in the offseason.

You cant seriously be happy with the Leafs being sellers. If anything, it's a massive disappointment.

100% it would be a disappointment. But why be buyers? Do you think they actually have a chance of getting past Boston, Tampa or Washington in a playoff series at this point?

Hell no, I've been saying that all year. Their defense isn't good enough but I dont see it getting any better any time soon with the money they have invested in their forwards so what do you do? Who do you sell that will get you any type of return to fix the problems this team has produced? Barrie is a nice piece but is limited in the return because of his pending contract status.

It's just refreshing to see a Leafs fan say what non-Leafs fans have been saying for a while now. They just arent a well built team and simply aren't good enough to win.

Exactly. So why fool yourself and become buyers when you know you aren’t good enough to legitimately compete in the playoffs? It would just be a waste of assets. I’m not expecting any kind of huge return for Barrie, Spezza etc. but something is better than nothing. Not to mention acquiring a backup goalie in the offseason will be a hell of a lot cheaper than in-season. Especially if the reported ask for Georgiev is true. Hopefully that Russian goalie they are linked to decides to sign in Toronto this offseason.

    Marlies schedule:
    Feb 1st Kaskisuo started
    Feb 4th @ Toronto
    Feb 7th @ "Bel"

    Feb 8th @ Toronto
    Feb 9th @ Toronto

    Toronto's Schedule:
    Feb 1st @ Toronto
    Feb 3rd @ Toronto
    Feb 5th @ NYR
    Feb 7th @Toronto

    Feb 8th @Mtl

Not a great sign for Andersen, however, being in toronto on the 3rd, in NY on the 5th and back in Toronto on the 7th...the call up could be just for the game on the 5th. But it's kinda tough to see when the Leafs could have just recalled Kaskisuo on the 5th after the Marlies game tonight.

Another train of thought is they brought Kaskisuo up today instead of tmo because they want him at practice because they need the goalie to shoot on to not over tax Hutch for Wednesday.

    UPDATE:

Marlies recalled a goalie from the Growlers...Kaskisuo is def gonna travel to NY (my guess).

An Andersen update is supposed to come in after practice

The Leafs are a flawed team, no doubt about it.
But selling at the deadline? No chance they do that, nor should they.
JT is going to be on the wrong side of 30 later this year. Rielly's contract is up in a couple seasons. Freddy's contract is up after next season. They can't afford to keep Barrie after this year.
They don't have the luxury to punt now - it would completely contradict their timeline. Their window is now - right or wrong - you keep going.

They're 2 points removed from 6th place in the entire NHL. And their best d-man, by far, is injured.
Of course they can beat Boston. And Tampa. And Washington. With a little luck, and solid goaltending, anybody can beat anybody.

Andersen won't travel to NY, DtD with a neck injury. Not a concussion.

You have to make the playoffs before worrying about who you can beat. Right now, they are barely a playoff team.

Not worried about it in the slightest.
I was only rebutting a point made by someone else who seemed worried about it. He brought up those teams that they allegedly won't be able to beat.

And the phrase "barely a playoff team" is misleading to say the least.
They are in a stronger conference and on pace for 97-98 points - easily a qualifier most seasons. They have more points than Edm and Cgy at the moment, two teams who also should not be selling at the deadline.

The notion that they should consider selling assets is ridiculous. They're all-in with this group. You don't lock in JT, AM, MM & WN and then suddenly decide you're going to rebuild. That's laughable...

We'll make the playoffs. Just a question of whether we can get our shit together to credibly challenge Bruins/TB over a 7 game series. Doesn't look like it at this moment.
