    is he though?
It's not like there's a bevy of other RFA's already signed.

    Point, Aho, Rantanen, Boeser, Tkachuk

Kinda seems like the "Marner situation" is pretty similar to all other RFA situations at the moment

Last I heard it takes two to sign a contract. If Marner decides it's going to be a long game of chicken, then it's going to be a long game of chicken. It works both ways.

Point is - Dubas should feel more urgency because their cap situation is far worse than most, and the GMs of those other guys didn't crap the bed and overpay in their last 2 important negotiations...

Well... it's pretty clear you're not a fan of Dubas... and are suffering some Lou-loss angst

A bit pre-mature to say he overpaid Nylander or Matthews. Time will tell.
Dubas isn't solely to blame for the cap situation. I mean, he's been on the job for 1yr now.
He moves Zaitsev & Marleau he frees up the space he needs.. two contracts he didn't offer.

If one thinks he's working these deals alone - they're largely mistaken.
Pridham is deeply involved with all Leafs contracts.
As good as they come as far as capologists go.
Dubas isn't signing players above the max number Pridham gives him.

Terrific trade suggestion that made its way via RT into my feed...
I'd do this in a heartbeat. I'd even consider just taking the one 2nd rounder.

Kadri ($4.5 mil) to Detroit for two 2nds (Detroit owns three) and right handed centre Luke Glendenning ($1.9 mil, ties to Leafs at deadline). Shave $2.6 mil in space and keep cupboards stocked.

McKenzie saying the Leafs and Kapanen are close to finalizing a 3 year extension in the $3.2M - $3.4M range.

    Fantastic news if this happens.

Agreed. My predictions have his market value at over $5M per year. And it doesn't put him straight to his UFA years.

Now Dreger saying the same for Andreas Johnsson but 4 years at $3.25M - $3.5M.

It would be a smart move by Dubas to lock up both these guys and maybe put a bit of pressure on Marner. Then worst case either of Kapanen or Johnsson are easily movable on those contracts to make the extra bit of space for Marner.

It would be nice to put pen to paper on these deals and give Leafs fans some peace of mind.

If Toronto signs Kap/AJ to a total of 6.5mill, bring up Rosen+Borgman (1.45mill total), LTIR Horton (5.3mill), Leafs have about 10.89mill for Marner and maybe another forward to sit in the pressbox.

Timashov might get a good look now with his $694k salary over guys like Bracco (842), Mikheyev (0.925), Korshkov (0.925), and what not.

Kappy & Johnsson for under 7 for the next 3years will be beauty contracts - fantasy and real life.
I still expect Zaitsev to get the boot.
That'll free up some extra coin.
They need to bring in a vet D to help with how young this back end is going to be this year.
Should be able to grab one on the cheap.

That kinda bottom tier D group:

Jordie Benn, Hainsey, Giradi, Engelland, Orpik, Lovejoy, Gunnarsson, Wideman, Phaneuf, Stralman, Chiarot, Sustr, McQuaid, Gryba, Methot, Sbisa

Lot of those guys would be long shots (Gunnar, Engelland, Stralman) but who knows.

Which one's can still skate and move the puck on their own? Most (Phaneuf & Sbisa excluded) are good in their own end. Stralman would be my #1 target. Hainsey for 1.5m 1yr I'd take back. He can still play.

    Stralman
    Gunnarsson
    Engelland
    Hainsey
    Wideman
    Sustr

would be the order I would pursue. Stralman's going to get paid due to the level of interest so the Leafs might be out just on $$

Considering these contracts are supposed to be done, they're surely taking a LONG time to be announced

Wouldn't surprise me if they've shook hands but agreed to sit on it until Marner signs. On second thought, we know from our Dobber Boards that Marner is gone from Toronto - 18 pages of proof on that lol

    1) Most of that thread is the same few people going back and forth over nonsense
    2) I don't believe for a second they're sitting on completed contract. That makes no sense whatsoever. If it's not announced then it's not done.
