I'm just looking for the truth. I'm glad all of this likely boils down to contracts and timelines overlapping and not some kind of internal battling against the head coach. One of the few times where a coincidence is nothing more than a coincidence.

If they had another yr each on the contract, I think they still get fired, or told they are on thin ice. But I think the timeline just worked out well and the Leafs took advantage of it to make themselves not the bad guys.

I just find it funny that all this talk about DJ Smith has taken place in the Toronto based thread and there hasn't been a post about it in the Ottawa thread. That kind of speaks to why the media focuses so much on the Leafs.

The Maple Leafs also announced assistant coach Jim Hiller has been granted permission to explore opportunities outside the organization.
