Muzzin played for Team Canada at the World Cup, guess who the head coach was...Babcock.

Addressed 2-way, analytical darling, hitter, grit, beard, didn't give up any young NHLer, get to put Marincin/Holl on waivers.

Maybe you even get to rest Hainsey for a game here and there because now Ozi can come in and play on the 3rd pairing.

Reminds me of the McDonagh trade.

Teams are prepping for offering Marner an offer sheet:
    https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/17...r-leafs-marner

100% makes sense, but teams are allowed to go 10% over the cap in the offseason, so it's not out of the question to match the offersheet and deal with cap after. But here's the offer sheet pick compensation:

6,088,981-8,118,641 : 1st, 2nd, 3rd round pick (must be the teams picks, can't be other teams picks)
    8,118,642-10,148,302 : 2 1st round, 2nd, 3rd round pick
    10,148,303+: 4 1st round picks.

I dunno, the 4 first round picks is enticing. Like, how many teams can actually take on a 10.2mill contract? And without top picks, a team that offers him likely doesn't have a lot of depth, so do the picks just keep getting more valuable moving forward in time? But it's also Marner, a 1st overall pick in almost every other draft over the last 5yrs.

Anyone know where Johnsson is expected to slot in tonight?

I saw on leftwinglock that he's projected for PP2, but it also indicates a 3rd line assignment at even strength at practice yesterday. That's not too enticing of a gamble in a weekly setting (locking tonight), so just curious if there's more current intel out there that I've missed.

Johnsson was hurt the last game, so they'd ease him in. May end up on the Naz/Will line. But there's also Moore playing really well that can steal his spot and AJ end up a healthy scratch.

these wingers are pretty fluid, no way these lines are the same by mid-2nd period. Where they start, where they end... all 4 are never the same

I've been quite pleased with Ozhiganov so far this year so I'm glad Dubas didn't McPhee it and refuse to waive a player if he didn't have to. Marincin is the odd man out.

What a 2nd period for Muzzin.
Bomb from the point for an assist.
    Absolutely lays out Corey Perry.
    Draws a penalty.
Bomb from the point for a power play goal.

I thought he was supposed to suck?

Muzzin brings two things this team sorely lacked - the bomb hit and the bomb shot. There's not a D that can take a true slapper from the point prior to Muzzin. No one on this roster hits like he does. No one worried about a slap shot from the point prior to Muzzin, it was always wristers for tip ins, or drive to the net for goals (See Rielly highlight reel) Not since Phaneuf left, have we had a guy that could unload. It's a necessity back there.

Not to mention, he's pretty solid in his own end.

Interesting. 5 year deal... smart on both parties I think.

Love it or hate it... the Leafs are set up the middle for a long, long time. Most teams barely have 1 good centre, let alone 2 elite ones. I will keep reminding myself of that over the next several months.
it's hard to love it, until they start winning some playoff rounds. A couple deep runs and you stop focusing on the money as much.
