It’s about damn time Babcock uses his backup in a non back-to-back situation. Between decisions like this and loading up PP1, he’s correcting what fans have complained about last season.
Well he didn't say zero

I mean it makes sense here. No back to backs for a while and Detroit in the weakest opponent in sight on the schedule

Reverse psychology guys. Babcock clearly reads these forums, I say 0.0001%, he's like "Eff this guy, I'm starting him"

Damn, I had a feeling I had missed something when doing the armchair GM. I think my math was off because Nylander wasn't technically on the roster at that point but I put him in and didn't change the math in my head. He would be similar to Kapanen in my mind. I don't think he gets moved, just an oversight on my part.

I think he'll get less than Kappy, but agree he'll get a bridge deal. Marleau falls off the books at the end of 19/20. So that helps. I'm hoping we can fill out the bottom line with a couple Marlies next year - Grundstrom, Moore, Marchment, Ingvall.. they're all close & have some sandpaper

I think the scariest part is seeing Zaits as the RHD#1. But Lily is your future RHD#1, so limiting him and taking the Babcock approach means he's not there for 1.5-2yrs if it goes well.
Well done, and even after the news of today that Brown is on the 4th line, that's a lot of money to spend on an amazing 4th liner (2.1mill) when you have that top paid talent up top.
The CRAZY thing is when Marner/Matthews gets signed, the next is Andersen.

Leafs roster Matt Martin and Roman Polak.
Fans: “They are a waste of a roster spot! Get rid of them!”
Matthews gets shoved into the boards by Kronwall and Kadri drops the gloves with Carlo.
Fans: “This team is lacking muscle and grit. Dubas really dropped the ball on that one.”
Maybe Hyman reads Leafs twitter. Currently in an argument with my brother (Bruins fan) about the hit. It was late yes, but the hit was clean. Hyman’s elbow is below McAvoy’s shoulder. It is clear as day. My brother claims it was late, blindsided and an elbow to the head. But apparently I’m the biased one haha.
The Hyman hit was called correctly. It was late. It deserved 5 minutes interference (and auto game misconduct). The 2 game suspension was also warranted. It was essentially the same thing as the recent hit on Tom Wilson. That also earned 5 minutes, game misconduct and 2 game suspension. Remarkably consistent. Neither was a head shot.
Reaves was never suspended for the Wilson hit, there's no consistency here.
I'm not going to argue the Hyman hit wasn't late but he came straight at him while the Reaves hit was a blindside hit that probably took place a couple seconds later than Hyman's on McAvoy. Also, Reaves hit one of the leagues premier asshats while Hyman hit a yound D recently back from a concussion.
DOPS shook their magic 8-ball and it came up no additional discipline.
