I wonder how Tavares feels about this. He'll say all the right things to the media, but realistically, this has to be a bit of a kick in the junk to him. It's like they are pointing the problems at him and his leadership abilities. Why else would they make the change, especially if it doesn't mean anything to the players.

Ya, it's got to be tough for a player to have something like that taken away, especially when you're like at the end of your term with your childhood team and all the extra stuff for JT. The good thing is, JT will 100% say the right things during the pressers with this, and AM34 likely will say the right things too. But ya, kick to the junk.

I do wanna clarify for others when I say the Captaincy doesn't mean much. It's like symbolic, but the Captaincy is more than "acknowledging the right guy" than "this is the leader". There's multiple leaders in the locker room, and there's multiple voices you're suppose to listen too in a locker room.

I wonder what will happen with the Alternate Captains now. Prior you had Rielly as one, then Matthews and Marner splitting it. Now....you'd think JT gets an A, does he split it with Marner? Do they strip Marner as a split Alternative?

I think you’re right about the captaincy meaning, But I do think there is a huge exception for those few teams that have super inspiring captains. I’m thinking of guys like Chara for example - He didn’t need the C to inspire, just like Bergeron inspired without that letter, but he took it way seriously and that made a big difference for that team.

So Marner shifts to only wearing an A when Matthews, JT or Rielly are out? This is what was happening with Muzzin when he was still healthy enough to play. He was like the 3rd A.
