I wonder if Dubas sat down with him and promised him that he'll be treated more fairly going forward.
No more Polak is my guess. Actually give Carrick a full time shot.

and Leivo is a Leaf fan as a child I think so he def is going to stick around way longer than most expect. Does help that when he signed the contract, he was likely promised a legit shot at a roster spot. Def odd how he did do it though.

Rasanen has signed 2 yrs for Tolkerit in the KHL... Korshkov is resigned for 1yr. I read this is an intentional strategy by Dubas & Co. to develop players beyond the team 50 contract limit. They get better opportunity for ice time & develop closer to home. Smart moves... they're also doing this with Dzierkels & Piccinich on AHL deals - playing in the ECHL.

Well... a potential 3rd line C is gone... Aaltonen to the KHL next year, 1yr deal it appears

I never saw Aaltonen as an NHL player. He's not good enough for top-six role and also not the type of player you'd want playing a bottom-six role. He's a good player but there just isn't a role for a player like him in the NHL. Another Toronto prospect that got too much hype for no good reason. Nothing wrong with taking a gamble like that, at least he played a key role for their AHL team. But fantasy hockey players should learn to see through the smoke in these cases.

Hard to see through the smoke when we're not professional scouts and can't pick up on nuances that would suggest he won't make it. 99.9% of fantasy GM's go with what is reported. It's been reported all year that he should challenge for a bottom six Centre role next year. Even the Leafs Brass made that level of comment.

EDIT: Dubas interview this morning - states he expected Aaltonen to challenge for a spot in the fall. Pretty strong indication the Leafs saw him as an future HL player.

I never owned him on any of my rosters because there were always significantly better upside prospects available to grab if I had room.

Him making this decision now, I do wonder if Dubas had a conversation with him about his future with the Leafs - telling him they're going to target C's in FA - that could be all it took. knowing his odds were being minimized.

Little upset we didn't pick Veleno or McLeod (who I think could develop in to a reallllly good #2-3 C) but Sandin has some good upside. Good Jake Gardiner replacement I guess (eventually). Not a big fan of having too many offensive D in the system, hope his play in his own end is good.

Really like the Semyon Der-Arguchintsev (SDA) pick.

Small player but if he hits thats great value. Thought he'd be a second rounder so getting him with that trade down pick from St.Louis is nice. IMO

I really liked Dubas trading down, acquiring an additional asset, and still getting the player he wanted all along in Sandin. Well done.
He's honestly been so good at doing this. He has a great feel of the other teams needs and drafting strategy to do stuff like this.

1st draft running it on his own has been solid so far. Just hope Sandin has more trophy success than a former Leaf with a similar last name...

I hated this trade with Bokk still on the board.

Some glowing comments about Sean Durzi made last week.

    NA Central Scouting @MarkSeidel

DT: I know that Sean Durzi (21) has already been through a Draft but this kid made the biggest strides this year of ANY player in the Draft. His skill and offensive ability will fit in perfect in the new NHL & although he won’t go until Saturday, he is a blue chip prospect.

A previous injury (ankle) seems to have kept him off a lot of teams radars
