Ya you're right! Thank you! I was always confused as why it was never brought up.

    https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#thirtyfive_plus
If a player signs a multi-year contract and is age 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract), the players individual cap hit counts against the teams cap hit regardless of whether, or where, the player is active. However, there is one circumstance in which there is a cap hit reduction, a team will receive a $100,000 relief off of the teams salary cap hit, if a player is playing in the minor leagues after the first year of their contract.

Though at 700K I would be surprised if another team didn't come calling to take a shot on him. Pittsburgh, San Jose, and a few other teams could have him fit in well.

I really hope as a Leaf fan Petan squeaks through, but as a fan of players getting chances, I hope he gets claimed. He's shown in the small stints he's had in 2019 he should be in the NHL.

Waivers are the new offer sheets. Can't claim anyone because OMG they might return the favor one day! It's more respectful if another team trades a player for one of them.

I think it's more that other GMs are realizing they'd rather have the open contract slot than simply picking up other teams trash.

Maybe they should stop using contracts on so many minor-leaguers with no NHL future

Apparently Leafs went after Darling before he decided to sign in Austria.

That's kinda sad that the Leafs were not an attractive enough team to Scott Darling to sign with

I'm done trying to defend this team. It's gotten terrible how annoying they are to watch.

Ugh. So, no real excuse now for not playing Matthews and Tavares a lot.

Happened against the LAK game. Very likely it was the Jeff Carter hit.

I wonder if this opens the door for Babcock to try Willy at centre again. Then again, might not want to mess with his mojo lately. Although the team has sucked, Nylander has actually played pretty well.

St. Louis winning last season after starting off so poorly is really the only thing giving me any hope at the moment.
