Personally I would prefer they resign Campbell than pay up for Gibson. I wouldn't see that as an upgrade...

Chris Johnston says Campbell's camp wants 5aav and is unlikely to get that from the Leafs. So Campbell asking for 5aav, Leafs offering (rumoured) 2-3aav. If I'm Campbell (who's career earnings is like 5.4m and he's 31yrs old) I'm likely listening to my agent and preparing to move if I don't get close to that 5aav mark. Guy needs to cash in, and he should. He's struggled and fought for his NHL career for yrs and deserves a payday.

Chris Johnston also said "it's possible that the Maple Leafs could be in the market for 2 new goalies". What a take bud. It's not news Toronto wants out of Mrazek, Campbell has priced his way out of Toronto, and it's not like Kallgren is gonna be the backup.

Rumoured - Kase time could be done with the Leafs. Rumoured to not be getting his Qualifying offer with the Leafs, or could get the QO but reject it. EF said he could be asking for 3.5m+. Which I have no idea how that's possible for his health reasons. Last week he posted on Insta saying "Thanks @mapleleafs fans for your support all year". Could be either thanking for the season, or thanking them like he's leaving.

I'm hoping for an Eric Comrie signing by Toronto. 26yr UFA with 19GP this past season? Yup. 10-5-1 record. 2.58GAA, 0.920S% with a bad defensive Jets team? Yup. Group 6 UFA like Bunting? Yup. Prolly can get him for less than $2mill? Yes.

    Leafs Cap Situation:
    Bunting (0.95) - Matthews (11.64025) - Marner (10.903)
    Kerfoot (3.5) - JT (11) - Nylander (6.962366)
Engvall (RFA) - Kampf (1.5) - Kase (RFA)
    Simmonds (0.9) - Abruzzese (0.85) - Clifford (0.7625)
    Forward Cap - 48.968116, with 2 RFAs (add 5mill between them?) - 53.968116m
Prospects Forwards - Steeves, Robertson, SDA, Anderson

    Rielly (7.5) - Brodie (5)
    Muzzin (5.625) - Holl (2)
    Giordano (0.8) - Liljegren (1.4)
    Sandin (RFA)
    Defense Cap - 22.325, with 1 RFA (2m?) - 24.325m
Prospect Defense - Niemela, Villeneuve, Kral, Kokkonen (outside of a couple, there won't be guys touching the NHL plans)

    Mrazek (3.8)
    Kallgren (0.75)
    Woll (0.766667)
    Goalie Cap - 5.316667

Total Cap - 83.609783 if Sandin (2m), Engvall (3m), Kase (2m) are re-signed. That's 1.109783m over the cap with a full roster. Some plans below:

    Forwards:
I would love Engvall back, he looked a lot better near the end of the year when he used his size. Kase can go as his injuries and potential contract don't mesh with the Leafs situation when they have some guys in the minors that can fill his hole. Someone like Robertson needs to get a top 6 shot IF they believe in him. If they don't, then use him in a trade. I think Kerfoot is moved to open up a spot in the top 6 for Robertson. Bottom 6 can be filled with Anderson, and Steeves. Dubas has shown he can find some diamonds in the rough every year, so I'll pencil in a FA bottom 6

    Defense:
I don't know what their plans are, but man, that log jam on the left side really show they are ready to move on from Muzzin, or use Sandin as a trade piece. I think it depends on the return of each what they do. I'd like to move Holl and replace him with a Lybushkin signing.

    Goalie:
I think Mrazek is traded to a team like Chicago who needs a body, and a goalie to suck (lol). An asset would need to be attached to Mrazek to get him gone, but a buyout is a possibility, but that depends if Dubas is ok admitting the mistake. That's not common with older GMs, but Dubas has shown he's ok admitting a signing mistake by getting it gone ASAP (Ritchie). Kallgren to the AHL is a thing I want, with 2 new goalies for the Leafs

    Line up:
    Bunting (0.95) - Matthews (11.640250) - Marner (10.903)
    Robertson (0.796667) - JT (11) - Nylander (6.962366)
    Engvall (2.5) - Kampf (1.5) - UFA (2)
    Simmonds (0.9) - Abruzzese (0.85) - Anderson (0.750)
    Forward - 50.752283

    Rielly (7.5) - Brodie (5)
Sandin (2) - Liljegren (1.4) - Lyb can shift off to start obvi
    Gio (0.8) - Lybushkin (2)
    Defense - 18.7

    The above is 69.452283, leaving 13.047717m for 1 bench D, 1-2F, 2G. I have a buyout for Mrazek (-1.033333) so 12.014384m in space.

    Goalie #1 - 5m
    Goalie #2 - 2m
    2F - 3m
    1D - 1m
    Cap = $81,485,616

It's a lot of moving parts including Kerfoot and Muzzin being moved without cap coming back which would mean picks, and you're not getting value in picks for those guys. Mrazek buyout, but that can be attached to a pick (maybe acquired from the above) to free up 1m. Then there's a possibility of actually acquiring Philippe Myers for the purpose of buying out for a credit of $616,666 (offsetting a portion of the Mrazek buyout) for a 1yr gain.

The next week should be fun with the draft coming up.

Comrie is a Dubas signing for sure.

Some other guys that hit the Dubas Guys:
Colton White (LD) - 25yrs old, 6'1" 185lb Dman. Played in Sault St, Group 6 UFA.
Subban (RHD) - This is if they don't bring back Lybush and it's a PTO.
Tierney (C) - Center depth guy who can shift up. I think Toronto might have to think about signing a guy who can shift into C2 role 2023-24 and JT to the wing. Might influence some 2yr deals for centers.
Nick Cousins (C,LW) - 28yr old, 5'11", 183lbs LW. Played in SSM. Cheap depth guy.
Zach Senyshyn (RW) - 25yr old, 6'1:, 192lb RW. Played in SSM. Former 1st rounder (shouldn't have been though). Group 6UFA. However he's from Ottawa and that might be enough for him to re-sign there.

Oh I completely missed that. Well I hope he enjoyed the mediocre main card. Sets up a nice Israel vs Pereira battle though.

And the fact they are more than capable of giving him whatever signing bonus he wants. Not many NHL teams will give the amount Toronto can.

A few promotions in the Leafs management system:

Curtis Sanford - Hired as the new goalie coach
Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser promoted to Assistant General Manager. She will focus on player development still
Darryl Metcalf promoted to AGM. Will focus on hockey research and development
Ryan Hardy promoted to AGM. I believe he'll be the Marlies GM

Brandon Pridham will stay as the main AGM.
