He's def. more in the Larkin/Huberdeau level of player. I mean, to even give him a contract worth Pasta or Gaudreau seems a stretch. It's easy to see LD & LC are overpaid on this list. In comparison anything over 7m seems like a joke.
I believe Couture contract is all FA years so it would always come in higher than the younger guys but I do agree with your choice of comparable players. Using his peers as a guide would bring him in right around $6 million.

I know this is a rumour, but apparently Kapanen and his GF (Annika something or other) broke up because he cheated on her and Nylander was somehow involved with it all. Now Kapanen and Annika are together, maybe he wants out of Toronto and this is his way of doing it?

Even if you discount the rumour, this is a pretty interesting way of asking for a trade, but not.

Did you mean to put Nylander's name there?

And what kind of source is there on that rumour?

Nope, Kapanen and Annika were together, rumour was they broke up because of Kapanen (and off memory it was cheating rumours) and Nylander was somehow involved in this. Then Kapanen and Annika got back together (prolly should have said back together).

It was just online stuff. I follow Annika on instagram and it was very apparent when they broke up (no more posts at Leafs games, deleted pictures of Kapanen, basic stuff), then on one of those Insta-Stories that delete themselves after 24hrs said something about Nylander. I forget how it was worded but Nylander was somehow involved in the 2's relationship. Kapanen and Nylander were/are friends. They used to do that funny question thing Leafs would post online once a week. I don't see that happening now.

It's a bit foggy about it but this is what I found online https://hockeyoneonone.tumblr.com/po...and-i-feel-bad

There was something that happened between Annika, Nylander and Kapanen. And Kapanen/Nylander were pretty tight and I don't remember seeing them as tight after April (I think that's when the breakup happened between Kapanen and Annika) but then again that's near the end of the season and Nylander hasn't been with the team this yr so....

It's TMZ-Sports Style "news". But maybe it's got something behind it where Nylander wants out but doesn't wanna demand it so this is the way he's going about it.

    Kapanen's shot is tiggghhhttt.

He just needs to learn how to stop when he's going full speed. He loves to fly down the wing and hit the brakes and have his feet blow out from under him.

Leafs 3rd in the league (26pts, 19gp-112pts over 82games), tied for 1st in goals for (68g, 293GF over 82games), tied for 1st in goal differential (+18, +77.7 over 82games), and they are 6th in goals against (50GA, 215.8GA over 82games).

They are averaging a 3.57-2.63 score every game.

This is a trade that was detailed by The Score. THIS IS NOT A RUMOUR, THIS IS A WRITER SAYING WHAT WOULD FIT.

    Toronto sends:
Nylander, Gauthier, Gardiner (Retain 50%), 2020 Conditional 5th pick (turns to 1st if Gardiner doesn't re-signs with Wild)
    Wild sends:
Dumba, Coyle, Fehr, 2020 Conditional 3rd pick (turns to 5th if Gardiner doesn't re-sign with Wild)

That's pretty interesting from a "video game stance". But I doubt a team that's going as well as the Wild are right now trade Dumba and his solid contract away. As a Leaf fan, this is what I would want to see.

Wow a lot to unpack here. But at first blush, as a leafs fan, I am not sure I agree that I like this deal. Dumba is great in terms of control and cost, but I think that (even though he is likely lost after the season to FA) losing Gardiner really hurts our chances this year. But Coyle is indeed a hefty upgrade on Gauthier....wow I feel like I like and then dislike this with every new word I type. Probably should have thought about this a bit before posting.

I do think though that you are right in that this is unlikely to be appealing to the Wild at this point, but more likely I think that the Nylander for Parayko straight up deal that Colby Armstrong was proposing the other night...

Losing Gardiner wouldn't hurt the Leafs.

I feel like Dermott could replicate his offence if given the chance and I'd rather Dermott defensively, already, than Gardiner.

Good news on the future of the Leafs goalies.
Ian Scott has been dominant this season. One of the best goalies in CHL
this year. Even scored a goal the other day.
Joseph Woll, after a couple of stinkers against Wisconsin has really come into his own too.
