Yup, I don't like actually linking the actual tweets when it comes to these off-season "hot takes" anymore because it just does what the reporters want. But I do like drumming it up for us to discuss here. Gives our Dobber more clicks ;-).

It is interesting if the Leafs explore Rielly as a trade option.

i am fully expecting the Leafs to do very little. They just need to shore up their depth. Spezza was good, Thornton and Simmonds were not. Theyre in that similar crossroads as TB before they acquired coleman and goodrow.

I think they are going to do something with their goaltending for sure.

Leafs will end up with Campbell + A goalie they trade for. I don't know who that is, but I think they end up going trade route for their backup/1B goalie and not the FA route.

Seems reasonable. I could see them going after Driedger or Mrazek on the FA front and Khudobin via trade.

Ya, the FA market this yr isn't that deep for backups, which is why I say trade route.
Smith, Reimer/Mrazek, Dreidger, Halak, Ullmark (starter tho), Raanta, Dubnyk, Rittich and I think that's it.

Khudobin making 3.33mill for 2yrs at 35yrs old, I dunno if the Leafs do that. My view of a trade was going to be something like how they got Campbell, as a part of a trade, kind of an "after thought" of the deal. Just running off a hunch on that part though.

Leaf's have so few $$$ to work with. Sure Andersen's $5m comes off the books. But are you signing Hyman? That will eat most of that.
Then what do you do a year from now when Campbell's contract is up? He will also want ~4.5m.

As far as I can see any deals moving M.Rielly will just bring less value / cap.
    good luck

I think it's past time to come to terms with the idea of Hyman wearing a different jersey next season. I hate to see him go but another team will overpay for him and good for Zach Hyman.

Probably best move for the Leaf's too. Probably acquire someone similar for ~3m and still have left over room for mid season acquisitions to bolster roster for playoffs.

I think i posted in this thread about it already but Toronto cant overpay for Hyman since they have 3 guys making 10m+ each. theyll have to find his type of contribution at 2m or less. They also shouldnt be paying kerfoot 3.5m to be a 3rd line winger.

I think LeBrun said Hyman is pretty much gone today. Sad ending to such a good Leaf stretch. Honestly loved Hyman and what a cheap good find. But you can't overpay for this type of player even though he does so much for the team.

Pierre Lebrun has said Morgan Rielly is willing to take "less money" to re-sign with the Leafs.

I'm curious what that is, and I don't know what they plan on doing. If Reilly wants 6mill, he's DEF worth that. But I'm curious what the line is to where they can't do it and stunt Sandin's growth. Like Sandin was drafted as his replacement. However it's never bad to have an abundance of D.
