It's not even like Bowman did anything good. He reaped the benefits of his father and actually made deals that made the team worse. If Bowman didn't have that sexual predator over him, he'd still be a bad hire.

He's made a ton of trades for AHLers and middle draft picks being a middle man, or being a seller, or being a cap dump place.
His signings have been blah. Then the Seth Jones sign/trade.

I've never been impressed by his work.

Bowman was lucky Dale Tallon had those adminstrative snafus before they won the cup. Trading a young breadman for Brandon Saad was the beginning of the end to me

This would be an AWFUL hire. As someone who closely followed the Blackhawks during his entire tenure, I can tell with certainty that Bowman has no business being given another GM job. His contracts were terrible. He always overpaid and never applied pressure to get team-friendly deals. He made awful trades and continually reacquired former players. The Seth Jones trade and contract is all you really need to know about Bowman. His drafting was mediocre but it remains to be seen if that was just the result of the head of scouting. He would be a disaster!

Treliving is the front runner right now it sounds like.

Interviews are being conducted this week in Toronto, so maybe we get a hiring before June (I'd hope so). And that would give 26 days to prep for the draft (for trades), and 30 days to prep for Free Agency.

And apparently Shanahan when talking to players about Dubas, the players came away from the conversations that the core 4 won't be traded. But it doesn't stop the new GM from exploring trades. And we know players have been told by Presidents and GM they aren't being moved and days later they get traded.

So Vegas is in their second Stanley Cup final in only their 5th season of existence. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs haven't been there in 56 years. Sad when you consider its the biggest hockey market in the world.

I am going to sound a bit ignorant here but can someone explain to me why Spencer Carbery is a hot commodity in the coaching circles to be hired. Serious question, not trying to be facetious at all.

For Washington, he was the head coach of the Hershey Bears and left the Caps organization in 2021 to be the Assistant in Toronto. So they know him. As for his work with the Leafs, he was the assistant that did the Leafs PP, which was 2nd in the league. I don't think the Leafs PP was actually as good as it could have though, but I've been thinking that for years.

I don't think Carbery did anything that put him heads and shoulders above coaches, but he is one of a few 0NHL head coach experience candidates out there, that has head coaching experience at a professional level (AHL/ECHL). So for teams who want new blood with experience, it makes sense. On paper his PP was 2nd in the league and was part of a top 5 team in the regular season. But to me...his PP underperformed, he was part of a coaching staff that had difficulties making changes midgame, and benefited from a highly skilled roster.

His accolades include ECHL Coach of the Year (2013-14), and AHL Coach of the Year (2020-21) though.
