Totally agree - but it's the media far more than the haters. I doubt the players give a crap about the haters out there, but they definitely are put off by the media hordes, especially the a-holes like Simmons and Feschuk who seem to do nothing but crap on them (see Kessel and hot dogs), or if you're a guy like Marner who seems very sensitive about this kind of stuff and finds it tough to handle. I think the fact they haven't won in now 18 years though feeds into that massively - watching that last ESPN special after they lost to Montreal, seeing Marner squirming in Dubas's office prior to Game 7, you just know they were super nervous and felt the pressure immensely.Originally Posted by lucafen4
That's why I think it makes a ton of sense to bring in a guy like O'Reilly, he will help calm things down big time - so will Giordano although he's never won a cup, fact he was there last year felt like it helped against the Bolts.

That game against the Isles was probably unimportant to the Leafs but the Isles have been playing playoff hockey for a bit now. They frustrated the Leafs (especially Marner) by finishing off their checks and closing off the neutral zone. Could be a blueprint on how to beat the Leafs. Marner looked quite uncomfortable with the Isles physical play. As I've stated before, the Isles are the last team I'd want to face in the 1st round. NYI vs BOS would be very interesting.
