So Tavares leaving NY for Toronto has worked out great for both teams. 2nd and 3rd in the Eastern Conference. Crazy.

Umm... I’d say Trotz going to the Isles was a good thing and if Tavares had stayed put, would have a better shot at a cup this year than he does now.

The leafs better hope their power play catches absolute fire in the playoffs or they have little shot with that defense

No doubt Trotz is huge and the players have to buy in to a guy who won the last Cup.

Babcock switching up the D in the 2nd period. Dermott with Gardiner, Rielly+Hainsey, Muzzin+Rielly, and Zaits+Muzzin were all present in the 2nd. I think this was just Babcock realizing he had the game in hand, and it was a good time for him to play around with the D.

Powerplay was finally moving around and not just looking for the one play. Looked great zipping it around. But Avs PK is terrible so...

Cue the on fire PP. Much more movement is giving the PK on the other team fits. Adding Muzzin's shot to the second unit is helping too, along with Nylander & Kap's confidence brimming. I can see Babcock reverting to last years PP split where it is 60/40 or even 50/50 as far as PP1 and PP2 icetime goes. Hopefully this carries through to playoffs - the adjustments in how they are moving seem to be working for now.

3 of their centers are on PP1, he definitely should be leaning on the PP2 just to give the centers a rest before their next shift.

The ref yelling at Andersen to move it on the 1st goal bugs the hell out of me. I hate when refs yell at goalies to move it.

relive matthews 100 goals (personal fave is 7:47)

No update on Johnsson's injury from the Leafs but Terry Koshan from the Toronto Sun reported that he travelled with the team to Phoenix and was walking about without crutches or a noticeable limp. Hopefully he only misses a couple of games at most.

Can't say that I love this....

    Thu, Feb 21

William Nylander will play center for the Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

Advice: Nylander is playing down the middle against the Capitals because Nazem Kadri is out with an injury. He's expected to play on a line with Andreas Johnsson and Connor Brown. Nylander has three goals and 12 points in 31 games this season.

It doesn't help Nylander at all fantasy-wise.

Tweet from @MikeInBuffalo has got me thinking....

.@DarrenDreger and @PierreVLeBrun reporting Nik Jensen going to WAS for Madison Bowey and a 2nd round pick. Chatter had the #Leafs interested in the pending UFA. With Adam McQuaid injured, the rental options are evaporating. Imagine if the #Leafs made Jake Gardiner available....

I actually like this idea. What would the difference be between entering the playoffs with Gardiner vs. entering the playoffs with Rosen? Probably not very big. Let’s be honest, Gardiner makes too many mistakes and shits the bed in big games. I’m sure Babcock would have a shit and be too stubborn to play Rosen but that is besides the point. The return could be huge considering what was just paid to Detroit for Jensen.

You'd want to move Gardiner out west, likely to a playoff team/team going for the playoffs. So running through the teams, they'd be...Coyotes, Avs, Stars, Hawks, and Vegas?

Wild aren't buying, Calgary, SJS, Jets, Nash, and Blues prolly don't need Gardiner. So it leaves the above stated teams. Stars and Yotes are prolly the only "desperate" teams that would overpay for Gardiner.

I would give any team interested in JG an opportunity to talk contract extension. If they could agree - you get a better return, possibly better 2-way, lesser offensive Dman in return

I don’t buy into moving players opposite conference. Gardiner is more likely to be the Leafs kryptonite playing for them rather than against them.
