    Michael Amadio signed

    Josh Ho-Sang signs a PTO

Just signed Alex Biega & Carl Dahlstrom on D

Still on the hunt for a 3rd line C & top six winger with $5m roughly to play with. Some vets down the middle still sitting as UFA's.
As is Hoffman, Ritchie.. among a few others

Leafs must see something in Kampf because 2yrs, 1.5aav is a lot for him. But apparently he can play a defensive shutdown center role and PK. He's likely the Leafs 3rd center.

    LW - Matthews - Marner
    Kerfoot - JT - Nylander
    Mikheyev - Kampf - Brooks
    Bunting - Spezza - Simmonds

You have Robertson, Gabriel, Anderson, Malgin and Amadio also in the mix with some of those guys being injury call ups. Brooks and Spezza can both float as a 3rd/4th line center. Kerfoot is obviously in that role too. But Kampf may be that 3C

Couple of depth d-men in Biega and Dahlstrom. Glad they have that depth for the Marlies and for potential injuries. They now have Dahlstrom, Biega, Liljegren, and then like 3 other guys that could get a minute in the NHL.

Ho-Sang on a PTO is smart on both sides. He gets to use the Marlies facilities and be in Toronto while he tries out. So he gets the NHL arena/facilities and could be something. Just a little surprised he signed a PTO on the first day of FA lol. That like never happens lol. Curious what Dal Colle does lol.

Leafs also have like 3.5m in space. CapFriendly shows like 850k but that's including Biega, Brooks, Amadio, Gabriel, Engvall who all won't be on the NHL roster come the start of the season.

So the Leafs seem to be hanging onto the 3.5m right now hoping for "the second wave" of guys to come, but the 2nd wave is...it's gone. The players left on FA are slim pickings.

Perry, Brassard, Thornton, Zajac, Perreault, Bozak, Kahun, Chucky, Neal, Sheahan, Johansson, Jankowski, Anisimov, Gusev, Tatar, Ritchie, Donato and Saad.

I don't know exactly who they'd be targeting, but they have something in mind.

That I think is the backup plan. Keep the guys on the NHL roster and have a bunch of flexibility when it comes to who you have on the NHL roster, which would include giving Engvall another kick at the can.

I'd feel much more comfortable if Kampf were 4C. maybe Brooks is ready for a larger role at C?
There's also a chance Semyonov wins that spot. At 26 - you hope he can just jump in ala Mikheyev.
really wish Mikheyev could translate his play into some points this year. so many great chances unrewarded.

And here's hoping Bunting can play 3rd line minutes with Mik on the other side & Robertson has put the work in this summer to get stronger & take a prominent role.
really need a couple ELC's to step up and make bigger contributions.

Ho Sang is such a wild card in all this. I don't even know what to think.

Hopefully Mrazek stays healthy but at those prices I’d rather have Andersen in there. Let’s hope it’s a viable tandem. As for the other mish mash of players, it’s basically Dubas filling out the bottom six as cheap as he can. Not impressed so far.

Pavel Gogolev, who had a nice run with the Marlies on a PTO last season has signed 3 year ELC with the Leafs.

I like the Leafs small moves this yr.

    Ritchie - 2yr, 2.5AAV
    Kase - 1yr, 1.25AAV
    Kampf - 2yr, 1.5AAV
    Bunting - 2yr, 950k AAV

They kinda went with a strategy of getting multiple of the same low risk high reward players and hope one hits but also the players floors will play a part in the Leafs structure and needs.

I like the Ritchie signing but looks like the menu of an In’n’Out burger joint. But worth a shot.

The Kampf signing sticks out as bad to me. He's never really accomplished anything to deserve a two-year contract. His numbers aren't good, the eye test isn't great and his analytics are terrible.

The other three feel like good fliers to take and hoping one of them really hits. I hope it's Kase because if he stays healthy, he'd look really good on that top 6.

You can bury up to 1.125m in the minors for this season and the next season. So that, with potentially buying out the RFA yr and maybe needing to spend more to keep him, and the fact they do need to have a couple of guys signed for the bottom 6 next season.

The risk vs reward on the 2nd yr of the contract to me is very small. I'm ok with burying Kampf next yr for a cost of $375k.

What you can bury in the minors is the league minimum+$375,000. So for 2022-23 its $750,000+$375,000=$1.125m

Yeah, I get all of that and I agree it's very low risk but there's also very little reward. Feels like depth for depth's sake and while there's something to be said for a guy who can come in and give you respectable minutes, Kampf has been caved in for much of his NHL career.

But as you said, such little risk that it's definitely not the end of the world if it doesn't pan out.
