But.... Wish he called it. He would have been fine being 2nd or 3rd on this list. He's clearly done and only playing for the record.
I don't know, it's tough to quit something you love. Kudos to him. Quite the career!

San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson has stepped down from his role, he announced Thursday.

Wilson held the position since 2003 and oversaw a stretch of 14 postseason appearances, including a trip to the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

With Karlsson out-of-picture in San Jose... this may be the weakest PP1 D-man in recent years.
Good potential value to whoever scoops him/finds him first.

Here is their main local writer's projections for opening night:

(I still think Leon Gawanke is darkhorse for opening spot... but Sheng Peng has Thrun at LD3... so he might get the chance to run it, if he makes team.)

I'm not sure if Thrun is ready yet, and with him not needing waivers, he's an easier one to send down. My assumption is that the opening night PPQB is Rutta, but maybe one of the young guys does get a look early.

Thrun was playing 19 minutes a night in his 8 games last year. I would expect him to have the edge to make the lineup at this point but anything can change between now and the start of the season. I would also expect the Sharks to try and trade a forward for a dman as they have 14 waiver exempt forwards plus Eklund and Bordeleau. They don't have 4 NHL dmen!

Labanc is the most likely guy to get dealt as he should be able to get a decent dman in return.

Macklin Celebrini left tonight's game with an injury. This preseason has been a nightmare.
