I have a strong feeling this kid will light up the KHL this year.

thanks for that update...I too feel he will have a great year and then next year he will make the Blues right away. I really do think he is something special, though I'm not alone in thinking that.

So Tarasenko before Kuznetsov? I still can't figure out who I prefer in points and +- league I am in. Both great players.

Kuznetsov will be a better point producer but I wouldn't touch either of them with a 10 foot pole.

I can give you 100's of examples of flashy Russians who never accomplish anything.

Definitely Tarasenko over Kuznetsov for me, has always been pretty clear. Kuznetsov's best case scenario is 3rd fiddle to Ovy and Backstrom. Tarasenko will be the #1 player in St. Louis in a few years in my opinion. The Blues are going to be a pretty stacked young team by 2014-15.

And I can give you 100's of examples of flashy Canadians who never accomplish anything.

But Big Ev does make a good point in that Kuznetsov is flashier and has a higher offensive ceiling. Personally, I'm not worried about either Russian. They will both be great players in the NHL very soon, but I do think Kuznetsov might be a streakier type of player. I like Tarasenko to be more consistent, as he is total package.

Tara sounds a lot more interested in coming to the NHL than KUZ does... Kuz has said if khl becomes a good league he sees no reason to come over

It seems the # of posts/threads on certain players greatly exceeds their expected production vs other players of similar value. If so, you sell.

I believe you are slightly misquoting Kuznetsov. He has said that he is considering all options, including the KHL. He has said he will come to the NHL eventually, but he is not in a hurry to get here.

He has not said that he will play in the KHL if the KHL is a good league.

That said, I agree that he doesn't sound completely convinced to come here, but you have to think about this from a couple of different perspectives. He might be simply weighing his options and trying to show Washington that he has some leverage. He likely doesn't want to come to North America to play in the AHL (and who blames him).

I will say that "most" high-end Russian prospects at least try their luck in the NHL. Some go back, but most usually give it a go, and I don't think Kuznetsov will be any different. Plus, Washington has a pretty decent track record at convincing Russians to come to NA.

I am not worried about Tarasenko at all. I think he'll come to the NHL next year and make a decent impact immediately. Kuznetsov on the other hand worries me. Just "something" about him rubs me the wrong way. Even though I own him, I consider any play I get from him gravy.

I believe the quote from Kuznetsov was more along the lines of "if Ovechkin, Malkin, and Datsyuk played in the KHL I would have no reason to leave Russia, but they don't." It was something like that. He actually used it as a reason for coming to NA, not staying in Russia.

I think we could see both of them in 2012-13....both of their contracts are up so it would be a perfect time. I expect Tara in 2012, it would make sense for Kuz to come over then especially if he has a great year in the KHL, but there's a chance he stays until 2013-14.
