As an Edmontonian and huge Oiler fan, I would not recommend Khabby under any circumstances. Sure, he's been solid since his return and the team is playing well of late, but keep in mind this is really as good as it gets for both himself and the Oilers:
-Khabby is injury prone and also has that pesky DUI conviction to deal with at some point
-despite their recent success, the Oilers will still finish in the botton 5 in terms of wins and GAA
-they are now missing two of their best veteran playes in Horcoff and Hemsky, and there is going to be some wildly inconsistent play going forward with all the youth in the lineup
-their defense is terrible (even worse than the Lightning IMO)
I feel your pain as I struggled with Ellis and Smith early in the season. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to grab Pavelec early into his incredible run. How deep is your league? There are bound to be some better options in net than Khabibulin, at least for the short term. Are Lindback of Crawford still available? If so, I'd grab them immediately. A lot of people are also giving up on Niemi and Turco, but I'd still take either over the Boozin' wall at this point.
A buy low offer on wither Anderson or Brodeur might also serve you well.
Happy goalie shopping!
