With LA winning 6 straight....the fear of Ottawa having the combined chance of 2nd and 3rd last overall in the Draft Lottery is real. And it sucks. Thanks Edmonton.

Possibly the last thing any Red Wings or hockey fan would ever want to watch.....

Wings won't re-sign Trevor Daley or Jonathan Ericsson. No surprise there and hopefully means Seider has a spot.

I still remember the promise Ericsson showed early on in his career. Then it all came crashing down. Not bad for a Mr. Irrelevant pick by the Wings though.

Question for all you Red Wings fans. Reading all of the moves that Yzerman has been making and all the rumours, where do you guys think the Red Wings go from here? Do you think there are any pieces on the current roster that are building blocks that you'd want to build around?

When I look at their contract situation, it's not too bad. Pretty much a lot of guys who are coming off the books within the next couple years, and the ability to accept a couple of bad contracts that end within the next couple years to get more building assets.

Who do you guys think is there for the long haul? What moves would you like to see Yzerman make?

Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Hronek are nice blocks for sure and ones I’d expect to stay. Hopefully Mantha doesn’t become a band aid boy. Hopefully Zadina sticks this year. Certainly smart of Yzerman to leverage his cap space for a year or two as with Staal to get some picks etc. He’ll have them back in the playoffs within 3 years is my guess.

Kind of crazy to look at capfriendly and see how few contracts they have after 2020 - 2021, basically starting with a clean slate. I see Yzerman doing great things there.

He certainly has the experience and gravitas to get something very special done
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

enjoy Staal if he isn't dealt. He's not a top pair type anymore but he is consistent and honestly overall one of the better defenders on the Rangers overall as far as reliability last year. He is not fleet footed whatsoever but he has sound positioning and uses that reach to his advantage, rarely will get caught out of position.
