For sure, there's a lot of moving parts. Gibson is just sooooo risky.

I still think a trade is the best option to get what they truly want but that wont be easy either.

The options are just pretty bad right now.

Carter. Hart. Arguably a weak GM in Philly, incoming coach who has a track record of messing with goalies minds, which isn't going to increase Hart's trade value. Trade this year's first round pick plus something else for Hart and roll the dice. Also, go out and get Mitch Korn (a.k.a. the goalie whisperer) to work with Hart. One can dream.

Edit: Not sure if Korn is currently under contract

Who else is excited for the arbitrator in the Evander Kane case to award him the win and have his contract with San Jose re-instated?

Then the NHL will obviously punish the Oilers by taking away their first round pick for tampering with a player who had a contract with another team. It's the NHL way!

Word is Duncan Keith of the Edmonton Oilers has decided to retire. The 38-year-old has one year left on his deal at $5.54 million AAV.
Heck of a career, two-time Norris Trophy winner and Conn Smythe Trophy winner.

Confirming #Oilers D Duncan Keith has reached a decision to retire, leaving Edmonton with lots of cap flexibility now. #Blackhawks will also be hit with a cap recapture charge, which was a difficult part of Keith’s discernment process.

It's a shame that the Oilers won't be given the salary cap credit that they should get from Keith's retirement due to the cap recapture rules, since the league doesn't want to grant it, but the $5.5M in space will still work wonders. The Oilers have the chance to upgrade Keith's slot in the lineup, and allocate dollars elsewhere. Hopefully Keith's 2nd pairing job can be filled by Broberg (or another young defenseman making the leap), which would mean nearly $5M could go towards upgrading in goal and/or on the wing. Just about every vision of a summer where the Oilers improved the team had to start with a Keith retirement and now we have it.

Might help? Closes thing I could find.

“No, there is no concept of a ‘cap credit’ for current teams that may lose a player to retirement,” Daly wrote in an email to The Athletic on Tuesday.

The Oilers were told at the time they acquired Keith that there wouldn’t be a cap credit at any point. Despite that, the Blackhawks would still be on the hook for a recapture penalty for the cap space utilized during the first 11 years of Keith’s contract.

``We were granted permission to speak with other clubs. While we are still hopeful to have a deal in place with Edmonton, we are starting the interview process with other clubs.''

While keeping the Oil an option, Kane already on the market

    I don't want Kane back.

I like the Brown and Campbell rumors.

If they can somehow get a top 4 dman, it will be a dream off-season. I can't see that happening, though. There aren't many UFA dmen I'd covet...Manson and Chiarot are the only two that interest me.

I can't see them getting a dman on the trade front either...the only rumored dman on the block that I'd want is Chychrun, but that's a pipe dream.

Top 4 D-man and not a goalie would be the dream? It’s gotta at least be a goalie right?
