Stalock had been on the IR all season. He is apparently healthy now again so he (and the Oilers presumably) wants to play games again. The Oilers did not want to send him to the minors on a conditioning stint since that has a limited amount of time so they waived him. He is now eligible to play games in the AHL and can be recalled at any time just like any other player who's cleared waivers.

Jim Matheson sounded like a dad talking to a kid. It's not an out-of-the-normal bad question, and the answer isn't the best, but Matheson just burned whatever bridge he has left with the Oilers players. I can't say I'm too familiar with the players relationships with reporters, but this def sounded like Drais been done with Matheson for a while and gave him a snarky answer for a reporter he doesn't like anymore and the reporter got mad.

Matheson told Mikko Koskinen in September "The fans such want a different goaltender other than you. Are you upset about that?". Followed it up with "Does giving up goals early make you mad? It's happened often with you"

Dreger tweeted at Matheson for something 3yrs ago. Doesn't sound like Matheson is well liked. And I think his schtick is asking stuff to make the player mad to give a non-typical hockey response

Edmonton has to have some of the least intelligent media in hockey. No this is not a shot at the Oilers or their fans. I feel bad for both the players and the fans that most of their media is very on par with Matheson/Spec. Just a disaster.

His question made us click and watch. He did his job even if he's an arse. Except it only works for so long until players don't answer anymore. Which is why Matheson then poked Drai with the "pissy comment"

That tells us exactly what the players think of the hall of fame reporters in Edmonton like Matheson and Terry Jones.

Matheson was one of the Oilers beat reporters during the 80s which explains why he's in the hall of fame.

Also...Matheson's question right before this clip started was, "Do you think your team was past losing 6 games in a row?"

What kind of question is that? How are you supposed to answer that question? Is yes a good answer? How about no?

To be fair, I think any reporter asking that question would have gotten a similar reply simply because the players are tired of answering the same question. This just happened to be Matheson on the wrong end of the mic this time.

I didn’t think it was a particularly insightful question. I also didn’t realize that Matheson was still alive. Or still working lol.

Reporters are not entitled to respect just because they are reports. Matheson, Spec, Jones take cheap shots all the time and the expectation is players are just supposed to ignore them and continue being civil to said reporters. Of note, valid criticism of a player is not a cheap shot. I consider very little of what those three buffoons write valid.

To clear things up a bit, Jim Matheson is not in the hockey hall of fame. He won an award that is given out by other sports reporters and is awarded at the Hall of Fame.

That reporter (like many of them) was a complete douchebag and deserved the response he got from Drai.
