That's a good start and hopefully they can build on this one. No question that Vancouver is a team the Oilers should be evenly matched against (on paper), but the Oilers often find ways to lose even those games.

Bottom six was absolutely eaten alive last night. They won't win many games playing like that. Nurse/Larsson pariing was not good either. Basically looked like the same team as last year but Smith played really well.

Thanks for the info...I didn't watch the game. I'm not surprised the bottom 6 sucked, but I'm disappointed to hear that Nurse/Larsson struggled. I have such high hopes for that pairing and feel they have the potential to be an elite shutdown unit. Nurse especially given his size and skating ability. When Nurse plays with a nasty edge and bangs in the corners and in front of the net, he can be a dominate player. He just needs to do that consistently.

The entire team had the jitters except for Kassian and Drai.

Mcdavid was rusty as heck and was negatively noticeable until his winning goal.

It was a meh game but they showed resilience coming back after Pearson scored.

Wasn’t pretty, but those are the games they have to win, and they did. Onto the next one

Ummmmm, critiquing the first period of the first game of the year will only exasperate your anxieties. Let's give this team at least 4-5 games before bemoaning the season please....

    And hey! They won!

Larsson placed on LTIR (blocked a shot with his foot)

Bear sent down, Bouchard called up

The #Oilers have assigned defenceman Ethan Bear to the @Condors & recalled defenceman Evan Bouchard. The team has also placed defenceman Adam Larsson on Long Term Injured Reserve.

Yo-yo-ing Bear and Bouchard all season definitely won't go poorly.

    NVM apparently a cap thing.

Yeah, Bear played decently last night.

Guess Larsson is going to be out for a long while.

    Oilers gonna Oiler.

Does that mean Bear isn't really being sent down? Thank goodness. I thought it was very odd to send Bear down when Larsson was hurt. They need to bring up a body, not send one down.

Anyway, I hope Larsson isn't hurt long-term (though it could be a foot fracture which isn't good news). This could be the chance Bouchard needed to breakthrough and prove he belongs in the NHL full-time.

I didn't realise when I first posted but it looks like a paper move. Bouchard makes slighly more than Bear so swapping them when they can brings the Oilers closed to the cap ceiling and can then better utilize Larsson's LTIR situation.

I was trying to be realistic. We didn't look good. We were chasing all night. We were badly outshot. Kassian was our best player, which is scary. We can't play many games like that, running around and hoping for Connor to win us out of the situation with a highlight reel split the D goal...

I don't think the team is going to be that awful. The depth is the main concern with this team. I also think Mike Smith even though he is old isn't really that bad. Also having McDavid in a close game anything can happen to pull it out. I think if they are able to keep games close they can steal games.

This is the same Mike Smith that the Flames felt wasn’t good enough to play for them...so...
