Ya, that's pretty much what I expect to hear too. It will be intersesting to see if the reporters hammer him with lots of stupid questions or not. I wish I could watch it live.

On the Leafs-Stars game the other night, the panel asked how the Hall draft would go if they knew then what we know now... MacKenzie said he phoned around and talked to several GM's and asked them that same question. The results:

    1. RyJo
    2. Seguin
    3. Tarasenko

    gap

    4. Hall

    Johansen ahead of Seguin? Really

On a complete side note, that 2010 draft was epic for 1st rounders:

    Hall - 1st
    Seguin - 2nd
    Johansen - 3rd
    Niederreiter - 5th
    Skinner - 7th
    Granlund - 9th
    Fowler - 12th
    Schwartz - 14th
    Tarasenko - 16th
    Bjugstad - 19th
    Kuzetsov - 26th
    Coyle - 28th
    Brock Nelson - 30th

Faulk, Spooner, Toffoli, Pickard, Zucker taken in the 2nd round.

Hindsight is great but at the time it was Hall or Seguin. Tarasenko wasnt in the discussion. RyJo either. If the Oil drafted Seguin Im sure he'd be down the list in 4th or worse. Hall's progress in the Oil environment has been amazing. The telling line from the press conference was that the Oil felt they needed to treat all players differently with the implication being that the "core" ( losing, non-competitive core that it is) is special and they are treated as special.

I don't really see who would take Johansen over Seguin, or any credible argument as to why you should

Ask them that question last season and you get an entirely different answer.

Ask them that question next season and you'll get an entirely different answer.

It was actually far worse than that. It was damaging. It reiterated the totally clueless stance of management and showed a guy who looked lost and without a plan. It was frightening.

I actually think there is a plan in place. Nobody with that kind of talent on the roster can possibly be that bad. I think ownership and management are indirectly trying to tank the season to get McDavid as the center piece for the franchise going forward. I also believe that Eakins has been instructed to give minimal support/coaching to his players and to allow them to hang themselves so there's no collusion amongst the players themselves. Mactavish is purposely not making any trades that would weed out the wrong players or bring in needed help. In the big picture, they are doing everything possible to fail while trying to make it look like it's not on purpose. If teams like Buffalo and Florida and scrape up some wins here and there, there's no reason why EDM can't either. I suppose it's the most ethical way to tank without player collusion.

    That's nice but it doesn't sniff 2003:

    Fleury
    E. Staal
    Horton

    Zherdev
    Vanek
    M. Michalek
    Suter
    Coburn
    Phaneuf
    A. Kostitsyn
    Carter
    Jessiman
    D. Brown
    Seabrook

    Nilsson
    S. Bernier
    Parise
    Fehr
    Getzlaf
    Burns

    M. Stuart
    MA Pouliot
    Kesler
    M. Richards

    A. Stewart
    B. Boyle
    Tambellini
    Perry
    Eaves
    S. Belle

And then some beauties in the 2nd:

    L. Eriksson
    Klein
    P. Bergeron
    Carle
    S. Weber
    Crawford

    O'Sullivan
    Lapierre
    Backes
    Howard

I've bolded the All-Star talent, which is half the first round.

And if you are wondering why the Oilers are such a tire fire right now, look no further than them getting Pouliot and Colin McDonald out of their two picks at 22 and 51.

Maybe in time the 2010 draft will look as hot.
