Not sure how the trade deadline will play out after the latest injuries. I wonder if the team will pick up a couple waivers in the coming weeks. They're at 46/50 contracts and that number might drop at the deadline, so reinforcements might be needed. I can see a handful of moves but it might be more quiet than other bottom feeder teams. They will need bodies to finish the season and some contracts are unappealing.
Strong trade candidates
Edmundson - The most obvious, and should fetch a decent return.
Hoffman - At 50% retained salary he would be a pretty cheap dept forward with upside for a contender. The key is next year would also be 50% retained.
Questionable
Monahan - A lot depends on his health. I can see him being re-signed to a one-year contract to prove himself. He was a good fit on this team when he played.
Dadonov - Getting older, and not productive this year. Even at 50% retained, I wonder how much interest he will get.Maybe he can block a trade to Anaheim again for the laughs.
Drouin - Not healthy and not productive. Same issue as Dadonov... at 50% retained I'm not convinced there will be much interest.
Savard - This one might have to wait until next year's deadline.
Wideman - Cheap PP2 guy for a team that needs depth. Cheap cap hit for next year too.
Kovacevic - Cheap depth for a team that needs it. Signed two more years for cheap.
Hold
Anderson - Maybe when he has fewer years left on his deal and (hopefully) better numbers.
Armia - Bad year, but he's been better in the past. Maybe he bounces back and draws interest then.
Pitlick - Too many injuries up front. He'll be needed to finish out the season. If he can stick in the NHL and get back on track he might get moved at next year's deadline.
Pezzetta - Again, too many injuries up front. He's a high-energy guy that could be valuable to some teams.
So, Edmundson/Hoffman should be fairly easy to move in my eyes. Dadonov/Drouin might fetch mid/late picks. Maybe one of Wideman/Kovacevic get moved. The Habs have a few vets in the minors that can be called up in their place.
The injury stuff is insane and really clouding the trade deadline for this team. Many of the trade candidates are either injured or havng bad years (or both).
Did I miss anyone?
