Just a guess. That right side is pretty weak so Wideman can jump up pretty easily I think. But it's also a good way to protect the younger guys in Barron and Harris by pairing them with Wideman and Matheson.
Cool thx, what about Guhle? Does he crack the lineup? Due to the lack of quality(I mean it in the most well wishing of ways) maybe he's in?

I don't know if Guhle will crack the line-up from day 1, but from many accounts he's probably Montreal's best prospect on defence.
I think he becomes a permanent top-6 before the season's end.

The D is pretty impossible to project outside Edmundson, Savard and Matheson who'll get top 4 minutes. After that, it's up to the youngsters (and Wideman) to show how much they can manage.

I think Wideman is definitely in to start the year as he'll probably be the PPQB. But he could lose his spot quickly.

Suzuki was already doing those extra responsbilities this summer. I guess we can only wait and see if this will affect his production but I don't see why it would. While the Habs are a mad market, it's not like the focus is always on the captain. It's not like Brian Gionta had more of a target on his back from the fans because he was captain. At least, I don't feel that way. Habs fans recognize every player on the team, not like in some other markets where the captain might be the only one the team tries to center its marketing on.

Guhle is a LHD, so I think his path is a bit more blocked than if he was RHD. I don't think he gets 10games.

Ok thx all. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I can see Matheson eventually taking over the PP or the Habs making a deal for one.

As of now, Kaiden Guhle is already a top-4 dman for the Habs.
Granted, it is a weak defence but he's been superior to all the other prospects. He'll get way past 10 games this season.

The other dman who could start the season with the big club is Arber Xhekaj.
That player is mean and he's really surprising a lot of people at camp.

Keep in mind, it's preseason. Things change pretty quick for kids once the real games start.

Habs claim Kovacevic from Jets. Solid.

    https://twitter.com/bwildemtl/status...AxaroPXoyctt1Q

Valimaki next? That would be sweet, and giving Valimaki and Kovacevic a shot with the big club means we could let Xhekaj and Barron season a bit more in the AHL.

Habs having top waiver pick for all players waived, until standings get re-set, is a HUGE advantage.

Drouin - healthy scratch for game 1 of the season. And so it begins.

Imagining the conversation between the agent, Drouin, and the GM about his 3 team no-trade list makes me laugh lol.

Went to Habs Coyotes last night. Just… wow, what a game.

Habs strike immediately with three quick goals, highlighted by Caufield’s hard snapper, that’s the amazing thing about him is that even when the gGoalie gets a piece of it his shot is so heavy that it can get through.

Noticeable Drouin for the first time in forever - brilliant chance in front but tried to deke instead of shooting, bad decision.

Gallagher with his own steal and snipe - he looks so much faster this year.

Monaghan and Dach so poised out there, as was Guhle who looks just otherworldly out there in both sides of the ice - terrific decision-making and good hard accurate breakout passes. This kid is going to be a top pairing dman force for years.

Also looking good was Jordan Harris, solid offensive instincts.

Allen made some terrific saves, when the Yotes started pressing.

Then the real fun -first the BEAST Arber Xhekaj just dummies doofus Zack Kassian, manhandled him and then eggs the crowd on. Turned to my buddy and said “he’s the new Chris Nilan!”

Then Suzuki on the penalty shot - I urge you to find the video clip - just amazing touch to roof it subtly over Ingram.

I turned to my buddy and said, “there’s only one thing missing from this game to make it perfect, do you know what it is?”

And then it happened - Juraj first NHL goal. He takes a high hit from Josh Brown in the corner, which Xhekaj avenges, then steals the puck along the boards and skates in and SNIPES top corner. Tops it off by screaming “**** Off” to Brown during the celly. Long standing o follows.

I cannot imagine a better game than this the rest of the year. They won’t be good but they’re fun to watch!

What a game, I had blast watching it live, can't imagine being there. The crowd reaction / ovation after Slaf's goal was chilling. Love the Bell Centre when it's rocking, no better place.
