Looks like Caufield to debut with Laval on Friday.

Gallagher to LTIR - will miss the rest of the regular season (out 6 weeks). This frees up some cap space for another decent deadline deal if its there.

KK will replace Gallagher with Danault/Tatar in Toronto tonight.

The coaching staff just does not like Mete. He was benched for the 3rd last game and now he’s out in favor of Leskinen...

Mete waived this morning. Doubt he clears. Apparently they feel he’s not slow enough or old enough to play in this D group. Oullette recalled.

I feel like Montreal needs to stop with the “playing not to lose” philosophy. They need D who can skate the puck out or make that good first pass and carry the game to the other team’s zone. Their D is almost exclusively (Merrill is another) players who are supposed to be good “defensive defensemen”. They are slow, heavy, low on skill, and not creative. The top level game has passed this model by. The Habs don’t get it.

Burger-Van is too afraid to pay the price to acquire game changing players. That's why his team is built the way it is. He has a deep prospect pool but is too afraid to lose anyone.

What's that old saying? You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Seems fitting here and goes way beyond Merrill. Bubble gum to hold together gaps in the lineup.

How do Montreal fans feel about this?

I haven't watched much.. but I thought Mete was going to be a decent NHL D.

He's got good speed and decent vision/skill. He's undersized. There were a couple of goals I saw this year where his lack of size/strength were really the reason the opposing F scored. But I'd take that for what I thought he brought to moving the game up ice. I'm sorry to see him go. I'm not sure why the Habs coaching staff disliked him so much. We'll see how he does in Ottawa. My guess is he does well.

    Thats the word.

I believe they missed the deadline to bring him up for the playoffs. That was on the same day as the trade deadline. They only way they can use him for playoffs now (if they wanted to) is by emergency recall, if I am not mistaken.

Not true with AHL to NHL rules. Think Robertson for the Leafs last yr.

The rule is an NHL player has to be on the AHL roster after the 3pm trade deadline date to be eligible for the AHL playoffs. But a player in the AHL can be recalled to the Playoffs at any time. There is a limited number of recalls a team can make post-deadline unless it's an emergency recall.

They did put a COVID exception in for NHL to AHL for playoffs. If you're on the AHL roster OR taxi-squad, you're eligible for the AHL playoffs.

    Then there's also this:

    https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/stat...72926874931203

Something to keep in mind is that because the #Habs are currently in LTIR, Caufield's cap hit is actually $1,308,333, and not $880,833.

This is because there is no longer a bonus cushion in LTIR resulting in the performance bonuses being included as part of the cap hit.
Basically, unless they have an injury to someone on their current 20 man squad, they do not have the cap space to dress Caufield.

Basically, unless they have an injury to someone on their current 20 man squad, they do not have the cap space to dress Caufield.
CapFriendly also pointed out that Ben Chiarot will reduce their LTIR relief pool by $3.5mill and they currently have $3.856334mill in relief pool.

So they essentially have like $350,000 left in space.

I don't quite know what happens with Merrill and Gustafsson since they are technically quarantining, but pre-Chairot they are at the 23 man roster limit.

Man the cap is such a headache.
