I like the Shaw trade. I read an article that said the Habs should offer sheet Laine. That would be fun and way better than signing Duchene.

I like the Shaw trade a lot but I hope they don't sign Duchene. He's just not worth the money he'll command on the market.

I'd rather they get a decent top 4 D. Don't know who though.

Can't believe they got a 4th for him. Good job getting an asset to dump one of their too many contracts.

Completely agree. I love the Drouin for Barrie idea but it probably won’t happen. Cap space $13.6 mil and counting....

Getting anything for Deslauriers is a huge win.

I have to hand it to Bergevin. He’s nailing it thus far this offseason...

Shaw trade could be a precursor for something bigger tomorrow. It could also be clearing space for Suzuki, Poehling and friends.

Strikes me as a very weak offer sheet for Aho. Wonder if Bergevin knows something we don’t. I expect the Canes to match.

    I always assume this lol.

Having to cough up 11.3 million in the next 12 days has got to hurt the Canes owner enough that Habs think they'll not match.

What TSN isn't keying on is this - Habs don't think offering Aho $10.5M AAV instead of $8.5M would have mattered to Carolina...the signing bonus couldn't have been any higher, and it's the $21M over 12 months that Habs hope makes Dundon hesitate.

The other side of this is... after the offer sheet business is over the team owns the player and the new contract. $8.4M vs $10M is a big difference!

This also speaks to how Aho is feeling. He didn't think he would get much done negotiating with Waddell and found a team/fit he liked.

Aho has an amazing agent. Talks weren't going well and he found a way to up the pressure and get pretty well what his player wanted.

Berg made his annual splash. I suspect we won't see much more from here on out unless those new picks can be dealt for something. With Montreal hosting the draft next year I don't see them wanting to get too serious about moving picks. Free agency is a perilous route to add and despite the low value deals over the years, the Canadiens have mostly avoided handing out overly big tickets. Gardiner's going to want 7x7 or so and I just don't see how Montreal can stomach that rather than just waiting on the young kids. Would suck to hand out a contract like that and watch him get passed over in a couple years while they end up in RFA hell trying to sign the young guys.

There is absolutely zero chance MB is done dealing. He’s going to trade for or maybe sign a decent (fingers crossed) LD and offer sheet someone else. He doesn’t care about about having 15 picks at next years draft. He needs to and will make the team better shortly.
