Primeau will be 20 in the fall. His ELC is three years and he has four years (or 80 NHL games) of waivers exemption. He has plenty of time to simmer in the minors although he could get promoted sooner if he continues to grow as a goalie. We all know what a difference backup play can make in a team's season...

What's the level of belief of everyone that the Habs make it into the playoffs?

I think if they win their final two games, they'll be in. One of Carolina or Colombus will slip against a lesser opponent.

I'm at like 40% certainty they'll be in. Every tiebreaker goes to the other teams.

It's also worth noting this team would be the #1 wildcard in the West.

Yeah it’s really a bummer they took the last 50 mins of the jackets game off. That game was HUGE and they blew it. The Leafs could have done us a big favor by showing up against Carolina too. They are really limping into the post season. It’ll come down to the last night and they’ll end up needing someone else to lose that night to get in. I see about a 20% chance they make it. The jackets and canes play their remaining games against NJ, Philly, NYR, and Senators...

If they hadn't blown the CBJ and CAR games this would already be in the bag. But in the end bubble playoff teams find ways to make life complicated.

For sure, but if they hadn't lost those games, that would mean the Habs would be on a 8-game winning streak. Is that really realistic? Had they won both those games, they probably would've lost a couple others. Obviously, the best case scenario would've been not to lose the two most important games over that stretch but I don't think we can say that they've blown it.

Imagine, if the Habs manage to win their final two games and not make the playoffs, they'd have ended the year on a 8-2-0 stretch with a total of 98 points. No team has ever missed the playoffs with that high a number. It sucks because it happens this year that there's this big imbalance between the East and the West wild card teams but that's life.

This is fool's gold guys. They overachieved based on team play and good coaching, not to mention a bounce-back from Carey. However this team is still a few years away from true contention, even if I have no idea what that really means in this year's NHL. Seems like nothing is stable for more than a few days, save the Tampa Bay Lightning.

No. Overachieving means they PDO’d their way to a result they didn’t deserve. They exceeded expectations yes. But they earned the result with that good team play, coaching, and good goaltending you mentioned. They deserve the result - they earned it. And if their power play wasn’t utter shite they’d be a post season team.

The Habs are officially eliminated... That was a very encouraging season and the future look bright. Still sucks to miss the playoffs this way, they were so close!

Meh, a long roller coaster ride for a team that was supposed to miss anyway. In this NHL it’s dominant team or bust. Takes a lot of top 5 picks and a good free agent or two to get there.
