So the Habs helped the Jets out and themselves by a) taking on Mason’s contract and immediately buying him out, b) not signing Stastny to an anchor of a contract, c) getting a solid younger NHLer in Armia and two picks for a fringe AHL defenseman in Bourque. I like these moves. I wish Bergevin could be as shrewd with the big moves as he seems to be with this secondary stuff. For every Mike Reilly or Joe Armia there’s an Alex Galchenyuk or P.K. Subban. Lets hope the next day or so continue to be positive...

Not Bergevin being shrewd, other gm's getting something they need, just Habs being able to provide whats needed - free up cap space.

Oh dear. How quick they forget about the craziness. Kinda looks like a Deal Chevy concocted and is giggling to himself about soon after. We all know what it’s called when one continues to do what they’ve always done but expects different results???

This is anything but Bergevin being Shrewd IMo.

I doubt he’s giggling. As far as making the Habs better now...it doesn’t. And they took some salary off the Jets hands for a couple of picks and depth forward. This was a fine trade for both sides and it helps the Habs down the road for sure. I see this as a win win overall. Nobody got fleeced and in the long run the Hans come out on top. Now if Bergevin could just figure out how to make the team better now...

Looks like they are bringing Plekanec back on a one year deal. Can’t beat the term if they’re bringing him back. I’d guess he retires at the end of the season?

Haha yes! Hey everyone...look over here at our AHL team! Don’t pay attention to the fact that I’ve traded away all our young exciting talented players for less-young, less-talented, less-exciting players!
    Go Rocket!!
On the plus side, I do liKe their jerseys a lot!

So if everything goes well with the key players (Pac, Price, Weber) the Habs can be a bubble playoff team. But that's only if everything goes well, which I doubt will happen with the rest of the roster in place. It would have been nice to bring in a center who at least has something left in the tank in terms of creating offense. Maybe a guy like Scherbak or Armia could find chemistry and become a 20-goal guy if given a fair chance. That won't happen alongside Plekanec or Danault.

I also believe Pacioretty will be on the team on opening night. Seems like Bergevin always does the oppositve of what should be done so...

Eric - congrats on starting page 500! Nice.

I agree that Max will be with the team opening night and I believe it?s becuase that is what he wants...which is why he is not agreeing to sign any extensions with potential trade partners. I?d really like to see them give the C to Weber. I think he?s better suited mentally to be captain...take some pressure off of Pacioretty. I?d also like to see them bring in a center short term...Spezza would meet the criteria you describe and I think they could get something from the Stars for taking his contract off their hands. I so want to believe the Habs are a bubble team and they could be...but there are a lot of narrow margins. From a fantasy standpoint, do I keep Price in my keep 3 ESPN league??

I find it amusing that Bergevin is getting kudos in many places for basically not screwing up this summer. How bad a GM do you have to be that fans are excited when you basically do nothing?
