Look. I don?t really care about the language requirement and I don?t really care about the success of the Montreal Canadiens.

You can accept the fact that limiting your hiring pool is a sub-optimal process, or you can not accept that fact. It doesn?t change that it?s a fact. I know we love to live in a society now where we can just pretend facts aren?t true if we don?t like them, but that?s not actually how the world works.

Have the Canadiens experienced some moderate success? Sure. Have they ever been considered a real contender over that stretch of time? Maybe once, but otherwise no. Have the Flames or Jets been successful over that period of time? It seems fairly irrelevant, but no. Lots of other teams have been wildly more successful though.
I never pretended that reducing the pool of candidate doesn't have an effect. The point is, the effect is as not significant as some make it out to be. The fact that the team has performed well above average over the years against teams that don't have the same requirements bears that out.

The Alouettes don't have any such requirement because if they did the pool of qualified candidates would be too small; not so with hockey. Hence the organization makes a decision, supported by many, that takes into consideration factors that go well beyond performance on the ice or even sports generally, without significantly affecting said performance. As you've said yourself, it's a legitimate choice.

In addition, the fact that the pool of candidates is smaller is at least slightly (slightly, not nearly entirely though) offset by the fact that the organization is mostly the only one recruiting from it. Look at the francophone coaches and GMs in this league, current or past, and you'll find that the vast majority were given their start with Montreal or the Nordiques. So, less fish in the lake, but also less lines out.

Apparently, Mario Tremblay made the claim on radio yesterday that Galchenuyk has twice gone in for treatment for substance abuse problems.

    Good game last night.

Price looked like Price and the pucks starting going in.

Let's see if they can sting a couple games together here.

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings and made a fool out of myself every time they scored. Such a relief. I'm with you man....lets string a few wins together and catch those vaunted Red Wings. Man that was fun to watch.

A home game against FLA is an occasion that they absolutely had to seize. Good on them for delivering.

Referring to the French language as a niche cultural quirk...? Yeah I imagine a francophone would be offended by that.

I mean. It's just an accurate depiction, when compared to the rest of NA.

Can we start a separate thread for talking about this stupid language issue? It's not about the hockey and I'm tired of it garbageing up this thread. Take it somewhere else.

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, the xenophobia reaches another level. Wow. New low.

If they didn't win that one, things could have tumbled down the rabbit hole mighty fast.

Apparently Bergevin has a press conference coming up. Not sure what about...

I missed the Presser announcement. I really hope it's not to announce a panic move! Fingers crossed....

At least he didn't announce something stupid like Pacioretty has been traded for Ron Hainsey or something. I'm better with standing pat (and NOT trading Galchenyuk right now) than a panic move.

He absolutely did say enough to show that he’s got nothing grasp on reality and is a poor hockey executive. The answer is in the room? The only thing lacking is confidence? He doesn’t regret any of his summer?

So, it has nothing to do with losing key cogs in Markov and Radulov and replacing the with crap?

    Those quotes are an embarrassment.
