It's a tough call, but the main thing is that it's temporary. He'll be back with top ice time shortly.

    Default Canadiens 5, Devils 1

This game quickly got out of hand and was really a snoozer for most of the game because mid-way through the outcome was no longer in question. This was more about the Devils sucking than the Canadiens playing well though. Unbelievable how bad this team is. It looks really bad that they signed Kovalchuk in exchange for having multiple roster spots given to guys that would otherwise be career AHLers.

I just wanted to point out that I told you so about Darche. He had a power-play assist standing in front of the net. The puck hit him and then Gomez tapped in the loose puck. Another good night of work for the poor man's Holmstrom. I'd consider him a fine short-term pickup in deep leagues.

Yannick Weber looked solid in his first game of the season playing full-time D. He's still the odd man out but this bodes well for him long-term. At least he's showing he can play at the NHL level. Look for him to make the team out of training camp next fall.

You're not lying about the Devils, they are terrible. I'm glad Zajac is the only one I own, too bad I can't trade him for even a 3rd rounder....

Why would you trade Zajac when his value is rock bottom? I agree that the Devils are collectively terrible but individually things should correct themselves with time. Zajac really needs Parise so he'll probably finish with a rough season but that doesn't mean he'll be bad every season moving forward.

TSN has announced that Andrei Markov is indeed done for the season. Not surprising given how long it took to get concrete results. Next is to see if my plan does go through according to my Markov article...

    Eric,
What do you think the Habs will do with the 5+ M$ they now have below cap?
Will they look for another top D to man the PP?
Will they look for a top 4 winger to take Moen's spot (Moen shouldn't be on the 2nd line...)?
What are your thoughts on this "new" money?
Keeper league (12 teams) - keep 6 (+ NHL team is auto keep)
    Weekly lineup: 1T, 9F, 4D, 1G
    Points only:
    Forwards & Dmen: goal (1), assist (1)
    Goalies: win (2), otl/sol (1), shutout (2)
    Team: win (2), otl/sol (1)
Only 2 FA pickups for the season (remaining: 0)

For now I don't think anything will happen, because players only become available around the deadline. The obvious need is on D because even if Subban/Weber do their part I don't think it will be nearly enough to survive in the playoffs.

I don't see them making a major move though unless they remain in the top 4 of the standings by the deadline. No need for a band-aid fix that costs an asset unless you think it'll go a long way in April.

BTW I don't think they'll add another forward. The depth guys on the current lineup are mostly favorites of Jacques Martin and I'm pretty sure he's happy with this forward group.

I don't have a definitive answer but my guess is yes and he'll be replacing Picard. They can't remove Weber and Picard has been ordinary this season. It's also possible that Martin goes with the "winning lineup" strategy but I think getting Subban back in there is more important than keeping a lineup together in the regular season (lineups change all the time regardless).

    Default Sharks 1, Canadiens 3

Solid win for the Habs today. A few notes:

Carey Price: I've been omitting reporting on him because I thought the notes would be redundant. His return to top form has been well documented. Positionally he's nearly flawless and he clearly wants to protect his net at all costs which has led to some spectacular saves where he looked down and out of it. IMO the Hart trophy race if between Price and Crosby at the moment. Also keep an eye out for a goal sometime this season. His shots clear the opposite blueline before hitting the ice. Very tough to stop and he does take shots whenever the net is empty.

Tomas Plekanec: Another excellent night of work. He scored a nice goal after beating 2 Sharks to the shooting spot, but what stood out most is his play on the penalty kill. His defensive abilities hurt his ability to put up points (like Toews) but if your league counds shorthanded points he's a safe bet to get some because he excels at both ends of the ice when a man short.

Mathieu Darche: Another goal going to the net. Not a PPG though. Gets the job done as a net presence guy. I don't think he keeps it up for more than the next 5-10 games before hitting a slump but ride him while the going is good. He's not very skilled with the puck (hence why he's been in the AHL so long) so it's bound to catch up to him.

Yannick Weber: 1 assist, +3. He's creating a lot of drama around PK Subban. Competition is healthy though and I'm glad to see a 7th dman enter the mix for playing time. Looks calm with the puck and isn't getting beat defensively.

Since you think Montreal won't make a move to replace Markov, do you recommand picking up Hamrlik?
MABergeron is another good option on the wire.
    Wich one do you prefer?

The reason I don't see a move happening immediately is because there's currently 7 dmen competing for 6 spots and the team is winning.

Hamrlik vs Bergeron: Go with the guy that has the NHL contract. Hamrlik is still serviceable for a fair amount of points. Bergeron on the other hand is not in game shape and with his defensive lapses I don't know if a coach will put up with him long enough to get any kind of return. Keep an eye on who he signs with though.

    Waive Spacek brutal.

What are your thoughts on the following guys?

Lars Eller - I thought he has been looking great lately, excellent with the puck and good in the defensive zone.

Benny Pouliot - I've actually been enjoying watching him play the last few games. Looks like he's found his game a bit and doesn't seem to be trying to do too much with the puck anymore.

    Thanks, great game today!!

Hammer is on pace for 46 points over a full schedule, if my math serves me correctly. That's not chopped liver.
