    Evans re-upped

    https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/c...=EN-0923-Evans

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with forward Jake Evans (until the end of the 2021-22 season).

For the first season, Evans' two-way deal will see him earn $700,000 in the NHL and $225,000 in the AHL, while he will receive $800,000 for the second year (NHL, one-way).

I like it. Would like to see him full time on the 4th line this coming season.

I'd like to see him in the NHL full-time but knowing Bergevin there will be plenty of competition for 4th line spots, and the others will be vets on one-way deals.

Hefty little AHL raise on the first year, and one way on the second year, so it's a good sign that he's in the future plans.

Yeah he would be a nice 4th liner. Maybe progressing into a 3rd line C depending on what happens with Poehling's development and plans.

I think Poehling gets traded. He'll go be another Phillip Dannault in another organization. I'd also hope they trade Domi or Dannault - not both. I'm really hoping Bergevin doesn't F this up but confidence is low.

Some discussion in the hockey forum on this but I figured I'd post it here too...

I'm very perplexed by the D moves so far. The identical contracts of Edmunson (2 years younger, 2 years longer) and Chiarot make me feel one of them is destined for trade. Also having weber chiarot edmunson in the top 4 seems like a revipe for disaster.

The petry deal seems like OK value for the first year but I'm genuinely concerned what this looks like in years 2-4 especialy on a team increasingly focused on the youth movement.

Cautious optimism abounds. I really didn't like the Chiarot deal last year but he worked out pretty darn good. Maybe he's on the move?

No really surprised with those moves. They did not qualify Aaron Luchuk, Andrew Sturtz and Antoine Waked...also no surprise.

If so i'm hoping it's cap dump trade similar to Steve Mason a couple years back, otherwise there's no reason for us to go after him.

Agreed. This would be a terrible add for the Habs.

I wouldn't be thrilled about bringing in Killorn but also depends on what the sweetener is.

#Habs Timmins says the club has no glaring need in any one position right now. They plan to draft the best player available but could give no hints whether they'd target a D, F or winger left on their draft board. TT described Tuesday as waiting for Christmas.
#Habs Timmins on the possibility of trading pick # 16: "We want what's best for the organization. If Marc (Bergevin) has to move that pick to make us better then we're all for it."
