Can the Canadiens retain salary on Kovalchuk if they trade him?

Retain 50% and send him off for 350K to St Louis for Blais or Kyrou.....pipe dream I know, but the salary retaining piece could make it even more interesting lol

They're already getting Tarasenko back who is different from their team's mold. Getting him and Kovalchuk could really mess with their chemistry. I just don't see it happening from their POV. I think they'll go with depth players that fit their team and style.

I think they would have more interest in Nate Thompson with retained salary.

Thus far Domi’s work on the D side of the puck leaves a lot to be desired. Which makes his wingers own zone work all that more important - he’ll need to be with someone defensively responsible like Lehkonen - which isn’t a bad thing. He’s just not a complete player. Speaking of which, I’d really like to have heard what Julien was shouting after the Ducks first goal. I haven’t seen him that red faced and pissed in a while. It could have been all three of the guys drifting around the D zone not checking anyone...Chiarot, Domi, or Lehkonen. Again, stop watching the puck behind the net and mark up out front. It ain’t the guy with the puck behind the net who is the real problem. Good win though. And it’s soundijg like Weber may be out for some time. Maybe he needs to rest up for the playoffs...

Domi isn't perfect but has lots to offer, just like the other guys. Plus there's always a chance a 24-year-old can improve his all-around awareness over time.

Convenient timing to post this but I'm liking Jake Evans a lot. Not a future star or anything but definitely has what it takes to be a useful NHLer. Four years in college and 1.5 in the minors. He's paid his dues.

He deserves a long look with the Habs. No need to mess with his development.

Been following him since he was drafted, for obvious reasons

He's reminds be a lot of Weise, but when Weise was playing really well with us during his first stint as Habs.

Weber's season may be over. Seems to be the same problematic foot issue surfacing again.

Season wise, while unfortunate, I think this plus our loss to Arizona means we just call-up the kids and embrace the tank.

Future wise, I really hope it's nothing serious and Weber can bounce back next season.

Since Jan 11 the Habs are 9-4 and have only made up two points in the standings. The OT loser points make it deceiving how far back teams really are.

The word is Weber is out 4-6 weeks. Seems like one of those injuries where he can rehab and return soon-ish and then more work might have to be done later.

Habs should put in a claim for Hawryluk. Like Evans, just give him an extended look somewhere on the team and see what happens. If it doesn't work just move on later.

Hawryluk has shown potential at times. Injuries have been a big problem but he's just 24. Still time for things to work out for him. He's a better investment on the roster than Dale Weise.
