That'd be pretty decent signing for both Ottawa and Cowen. Though I'm not sure Cowen has done anything to deserve a bigger contract than Karl Alzner signed earlier in this off-season but the difference in $$$ isn't that big. Paying a little extra for Cowen's higher offensive potential.

It's bullshit that Cowen was even an RFA. Damn rules.
That certainly threw a curve ball on my cap team. I expected to have him for another cheap year and I was counting a lot on that. Now I'll just have to rotate him with Schultz as there's no cap room for both of them.
Though that was explicitly stated in the CBA so for Sens management that shouldn't have come as a surprise.

I assume you meant signed, not UFA.
Maybe it was unclear or hidden for unofficial sites like Capgeek, hockey writers and fans. You'd have to read the rules carefully to catch that. But it shouldn't have been hidden or unclear for team management. It's pretty clearly written in the CBA when you specifically look at the issue so if it was unclear for the team, I'd blame the teams CBA expert/lawyers for not being on top of things.
