Despite the injury in practice working against him, Lehner has been much better than Crawford so far in camp. I know preseason numbers aren't important, but it's interesting to see the confirmation that Lehner is clearly the more talented option in net. 50 starts wouldn't surprise me at all.

I would love to see them give cag the time and mins. He has shown nice skills but not given a chance. Maybe they are hoping for a strome like outcome.

Yeap. Via their actions, the Hawks do not think very highly of Perlini.

While we don't know the whole story, this looks like a case of "what have you done lately".

The Chicago Blackhawks announced the firing of president and CEO John McDonough on Monday.

McDonough has been a fixture in Chicago sports for the past four decades and joined the team in 2007, ushering in a new period of relevance for the club. The title of CEO was added to his duties in 2011.

"As difficult as this is, we believe it was the right decision for the future of the organization and its fans," chairman Rocky Wirtz said in a statement.

Under McDonough, the Blackhawks won three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015 and McDonough spearheaded the returns of Tony Esposito, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita as team ambassadors.

Forbes called McDonough's work with the team "the greatest sports-business turnaround ever."

Wirtz says the club will begin the search for a new executive immediately.

"While we can reassure our fans there will be hockey again, no one knows what that will look like," Wirtz said. "What we do know is that it will take a new mindset to successfully transition the organization to win both on and off the ice."

Danny Wirtz will serve as team president in the interim.

Prior to joining the Blackhawks, McDonough spent 25 years with the Chicago Cubs.

There is a lot to this story. McDonough was a very difficult boss and created a heavy working environment which it doesn't sound like meshed well with Danny Wirtz. From looking at the Hawks press release, this could signal the beginning of a rebuild since that was a word that McDonough never uttered. Maybe it is a total house cleaning and Bowman and Colliton follow or Bowman could possibly be promoted to President of Hockey Operations with a new GM. It will be interesting for sure.

And while McDonough did a great job with the Hawks, he started when the team was near the bottom. Old man Wirtz was notoriously cheap and the front office was extremely thin. Until Wirtz died in 2007, the Hawks home games were not on local cable TV. Rocky Wirtz hired McDonough and gave him a blank checkbook to run the team professionally.
Let's not forget that McDonough came on board with Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp and Co already in the fold. He definitely walked into a perfect situation for a turnaround. Many other executives would have done a great job if put in McDonough's position in 2007.

I remember those days...it was quite a turnaround for the organization when Toews came into the picture...

No way he goes into next season with those two in net. He will be a buyer.

Going to be interesting to see where Crawford lands. He has always performed better with a heavy workload so a 1B situation is not ideal for him. Granted, he shouldn't be facing the amount of shots and high quality scoring chances as he would have in Chicago.

I'm fine with the Hawks moving on from Crawford and rebuilding but it makes me angry that they won that meaningless series against Edmonton. Perfetti or Rossi could have been their pick instead of reaching for Reichel.

I highly doubt it. He had some great games in the playoffs after coming back from Covid. He wanted to resign but the Hawks did not offer much. If he gets on a good team I could see him winning the starter spot and having a great season. Granted, he is a concussion away from retirement too. Would LOVE to see Carolina or Colorado to sign him. How about Vancouver on a 1-year to team with Demko?
