Spooner played really well last night.. A change of scenery was definitely needed for the 25 year old..

How low can NY fall in the standings now ?

The funny thing is the new look defense has some very nice features in that they skate well, jump into the play, make that first pass to get out of the zone. All in all the blueline does have some nice potential. Its not like they have been playing with McDonagh for the last few weeks anyway. With Shat out and Staal hurting after that nasty hit by Emelin, its been the Brady Skjei show for the most part. Tony DeAngelo has improved his overall play as well. I like this blueline. Are they going to make glaring errors down the stretch ? absolutely. But its a golden opportunity to see what NY has with these kids.

Gilmour and Pionk can really skate.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

    According the NY Post

The Rangers had become convinced J.T. Miller’s coachability issues were not linked to Vigneault and they were concerned he had regressed in his work habits and off-ice preparation, according to individuals familiar with the inner dynamic.

As such, they were not going to grant Miller, an upcoming restricted free agent with arbitration rights, the long-term deal for between $5 million and $5.4 million per season that would have been required to keep him off the open market following next season. Had the parties gone to arbitration on a one-year deal, Miller likely would have been in the $4.5 million range during what would have been his walk season. That was the impetus behind the decision to include him in the deal with the Lightning.

Ryan McDonagh's last few hours as a Ranger

Ryan McDonagh was done working out, and all the Rangers trainers had left the practice facility in Westchester to catch the team flight to Vancouver. But the captain, who was rehabbing his right-hand/wrist injury, stuck around. He turned on the television and sat there by himself, waiting to hear if he had been traded.

    Happy Birthday Henke !

50 saves is a great present

NYR also hit 4 posts and a crossbar in the first 2 periods

The team is much more exciting lately. Down the stretch towards the deadline the team was not very entertaining, not so now.

Gilmour and Pionk look very good on the backend, while Skiei is jumping into the play nicely. DeAngelo is finding the fowards on those stretch passes too.

Spooner and Namestnikov have jump started the offense

    Change of scenery indeed.
Spooner had a wide open chance in Edmonton tonight and made like 3 or 4 moves before missing the net.

Namestnikov is also playing very well.

Uncle Larry dropping some names about teams who were asking about McDonagh at the deadline

Gentleman Jim Rutherford was persistent, and perhaps even a pest, in his attempt to bring Ryan McDonagh to Pittsburgh, we’re told, but the Penguins never did cobble together an offer that was worth consideration.

The Capitals, too, wanted to get in on McDonagh, but weren’t able to pull in a third team that might have been able to get it done. The Panthers, late entries into the mix, couldn’t/wouldn’t make a tempting offer.

Had the Lightning not submitted to the Blueshirts’ demand for Libor Hajek, McDonagh would have remained a Ranger through at least the end of the season.

And wouldn’t that have been awkward.

its buried at the bottom of an article questioning the state of the Islanders

I was surprised nobody snatched up Zuccarello, he really could have helped a team in the playoffs.. I would love to be behind the scenes on deadline day and see how things are truly done by the NHL GM's..

Agreed, I think Zuc stayed for a few reasons

but primarily he took "less" money to stay in NYC

So I think the team recognized that, plus they need at least some presence from the old team (now that half of them are in Tampa) and Zuc is a great one to have around

Never gives up, never backs down and came back from that brutal head injury

I am half of the mind for NY to buy out Staal in the offseason at what they paid Girardi to leave last season, but then again perhaps they want to keep the vet around for the same reason Zuc is still in the uniform

    and here come the kids

Both Chytil and Andersson will join NY down the stretch.

Chytil already has 2 gp in the show so will only play in 7 of the remaining games, while Andersson can play in 9.

The Wolfpack season is over for the most part so this a change of pace for NY whom has played down the stretch to "avoid" injury and prep for the 2nd season. No such luck this year.

Very excited to see what these kids can do. Plus any time this kind of situation forces AV to sit Deharnais is a welcome change.

Uncle Larry has a story about it in NY's fishwrap aka the post

    https://nypost.com/2018/03/19/ranger...e-draft-picks/

best of luck to both players

Regarding Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil, the Rangers' 1st round picks from last year, Alain Vigneault said GM Jeff Gorton and assistant GM Chris Drury will talk later today about possibly calling them up in time to play against Washington on Monday. #nyr

The Rangers have actually looked really good of late, haven't followed them too close but they seem to be putting the puck in the net!!
